Item : 100% AUTH HERMES KELLY BAG BOX CALF DARK NAVY 28cm
Item no: 230499729474

Hi Authenticators,

After hearing stories about fake receipts and letters on the net, could you please help with authenticating this bag? The seller seems pretty upfront about scratches and general condition of the bag.

Only thing is seller is from Japan but bag will be shipped from London. Listing mentioned that bag has been to spa in Paris but the receipt is issued from Sloane St store in London. Very confusing.

Thank you
Thank you

A little bump for:

Item: Birkin 30 cm clemence potiron
Listing number: 150467966990
Seller: dameyouyou
Link: http://cgi.ebay.fr/AUTHENTIQUE-SAC-H...-/150467966990
Comments: Is this authentic?

There are more pictures of it here)!

Seller says that the "tag" indicates the 98th season (i.e. that this bag was made 98 seasons after the first introduction of the Birkin). I find this a bit strange...

Kashmira,

I have looked closely at everything again for you, as I know this is a grail type bag for you, no? Unfortunately I personally just do not feel comfortable giving you the green light on this bag.

Unless another authenticator tells you differently, I would pass. So sorry.

The Kelly in the pictures is authentic.

She, like so many of us unfortunately, is feeling her age today! She is scratched, but she is also wrinkled and dry, which if she has indeed been to Spa as the seller says, will not change.

The pictures are taken with a lot of flash, she may not look as shiny in real life. In my opinion, the price is out of line with the condition and age of the bag.

This is only for someone who is OK with the Mary-Kate Olsen look.

Thank you so much Bababebi- I will pass. I am sure of that there is another potiron bag (preferably a Kelly to be honest!) waiting for me somewhere!

Thank you Bababebi for valuable thoughts. The bag has seen better days. While I do fancy a preloved bag, I don't feel 100% comfortable with getting this one. In the meantime, I can keep my money tree growing.

I am so confused here how some people can say the bag is fake and others say it is real. I am not familiar with H yet, but I did frequent the LV "auth this" and also authenticated there for a while.
Of course there were always the "newbies" stating their opinion and perhaps being wrong, but never did a senior authenticator say something was fake without being 100% sure. I understand that the authenticators are providing a free service and giving up tons of their time to do so, but when we are talking about 10k bags, this is a big deal if someone jumps the gun here. Telling someone DO NOT bid on this bag because its fake, and then someone else comes along and says its real. This can really harm the sales of these sellers. If you arent 100% sure, why is there a need to say its fake? I truely hope this is not some type of personal attack against the seller for her "history" which I dont think anyone has any proof of any wrong doing. I understand that we are looking out for fellow tPFers here, but sometimes I feel it may go too far. I know this is not going to be a popular post, and most likely ignored, but I couldnt help but say something.

I want to respond to this particular statement from a logical point of view. I am not an authenticator, but someone who relies heavily on the tpf auth process when buying. I have not had much experience selling stuff.

1) There is no malicious intent against the seller when the authenticators advise caution.

2) If the buyer is warned away, all the seller lose is a potential sale. Yes, there is a loss of reputation. However, they don't lose anything material vs the buyer who may lose thousands of dollars.
2a)Sellers are welcome to defend their reputation here; if they show reasonableness and good attitudes, they will be listened to.

3) The risk for the buyer as opposed to the seller is greater, that is why caution for the buyer is advised rather than giving wishy washy statements and judgements against a bag just to preserve the rep of a seller.

4) At the end of the day, caveat emptor. The buyer still has a choice to buy from the seller no mater what opinions they read. At least they go into it with their eyes open and know the risk they are taking.

5) These sellers are resellers or 2nd hand owners. To me personally, the reasons why they are trying to resell their items is none of my concern. As a buyer, I just want to be able to make an informed decision at the end of the day. I am not concerned about their sales figures or if they are able to move their goods. As far as I'm concerned, it's up to the seller to convince the buyers to buy. It's also not the authenticators' problem to worry about someone's sales.

Hi Hermes experts, could you gals out there help me, and let me know if this bag is Authentic? The leather shows viens etc.. but not sure and am a newbie. All information is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Ladiim08.

Please post using the format in post #1 of this thread. If it's not an eBay listing, please include who is offering the bag for sale and the price. The Authenticators will not give an opinion without more information.

I'd like to toss this in for all the folks out there wanting to have bags authenticated.....

It really is to your benefit to ask for authentication BEFORE you make a purchase. You won't make a potential bad purchase and we won't feel awful if we have to give you bad news.......

Just a thought.....:flowers:
