A) please provide more details. What does private sale mean - consignment store, web site, friend (and if so, where did they obtain the bag), what leather did they say this is supposed to be, how much are they asking, general circumstances of the initial purchase
B) these pictures are inadequate. Please review the first post for the pics we ask for. Thanks.

Hi mistikat, a friend is selling this bag, purchased from Europe, selling for approx. 10,000US$, she always helps her client purchase H bags from Europe. Leather "Fjord"

She purchased from H boutique in Europe, then sell it to her friends/clients. I am authenticating it here just to get a piece of mind that it's guaranteed authentic.
The handles are wrapped in plastic, just to prevent the handles from darkening after trying.

As Bababebi noted, this is an Initiale. It dates from Martin Margiela's time at Hermes. It's not a very popular bag, and resale generally stays low on it. They were as expensive, if not more expensive, than a birkin when first introduced, but they often sell for less than a third original retail now. They don't turn up all that often.

I compared the listing pics to my Initiale and don't see any particular deviation from the norm. I think it's authentic.

I adore this bag, but you should buy it knowing that you're buying a not-terribly-desirable bag that is difficult to resale should you change your mind and decide you'd rather have something that is more obviously Hermes.

comment: I know that she's a trusted seller but I thought covered locks are only for exotics. Comments on condition & price are greatly appreciated. If the stars are aligned correctly then I might just take my name off the waiting list for a beige clair. ;)

No, covered locks often come on light-colored bags. My Parchemin Clemence Birkin direct from the boutique has a covered lock.

The bag is authentic and light colored bags come with covered locks.
