Please don't beat me up, I'm a Dior newbie... (I'm trying to learn though!)

eBay: AUTH NWT Christian Dior Gaucho Cream Bag $2,075! (item 160047990236 end time Nov-06-06 18:07:49 PST)

Is it safe to assume this isn't authentic?

Oh, if you could tell me what tells you it's fake or otherwise status, that'd be nice too!

Hi madamestuff!

Welcome to the Dior subforum!!! We're nice people here so there's no such thing as beating each other up here:nuts:

As for the Gaucho, it's (unfortunately) fake although the price is really high for a fake. Here are the reasons why it's fake:
- the Christian Dior PARIS logo on the interior leather flap doesn't look like the real logo...if you pay upwards of $1000 for a bag, the logo better be embossed to an exactness
- the lambskin links aren't "dirty" enough, nor are they textured enough (as the real lambskin links are)
- the Dior logo on the front belt buckle is inaccurate; the "D" doesn't even look like it belongs to the "ior".

You actually noticed some of these details already, and found more on your own (even the angle of the belt)! You're on your way to becoming a Gaucho expert!

Thanks May Day!

It's a sad thing; my boyfriend can spot a fake Primp thermal at 100 paces, but I ("we") are still learning on the handbags. He's pretty good with an LV monogram though.

I find these 'beaten up' bags quite confusing in terms of determining authenticity (or lack thereof) - the structured bags seem so much easier when you're trying to play 'spot the difference' with an authentic picture!

Thanks again for your help. I'm not *quite* ready to buy... I just want to make sure that when I am, I can pounce on something quickly having at least nearly perfected my authenticating eye!

Hi HappyAngel!

This bag is authentic although the price is a bit high...I've seen them sell for around $350, so I would wait if I were you.

Although I love LV too, I have to wholeheartedly recommend the Dior because it looks so rebellious and racy!

Thanks, Mayday! I think Dior is more versatile since it's black! & LV is a bit too dressy for me. I guess I will wait for that bag on ebay. I like that bag since 2004 & at that time, I can't afford it....if you ever see this bag on ebay again, please let me know! Thanks a bunch for always helping me out!

does this look okay? i don't want it but i found someone selling for a pretty low price i think so just got curious. thanks!

Hey purpledrizzles

I'm a newbie at this too... so please take what I say with a grain of salt (or probably a bucket)...

I don't think the first one is authentic because the top flap is too short. The caramel detailing doesn't seem right to me either, and the leather overall doesn't seem worn enough.

The second one isn't real - the leather is WAY too stiff, the hardware too shiny and I think the charm on the buckle is on the wrong side.

The third one has the same issues as the first.

The last one is way too shiny and icky and white. They're supposed to look beat-up, remember! :yucky:

I also think the one you posted in the second post is fake too.

HOWEVER, again, I'm just a beginner.

When you're looking at the eBay listings, I suggest you have some pictures of authentic Gauchos open in another window, and then play 'spot the difference' with the bags.

How did I do, MayDay? :D

Hi fatefullotus!

This bag is authentic, and really nice!

By the way, I'm selling a bag on Ebay at the moment...it would be interesting to see if someone finds it and posts it on this thread for authentication!!!

haha, which bag are you selling mayday? if it's anything from your dior collection, it's probably going to sell reaaaaally well.

now to go on a hunt to spot your bag.
