Hi, I would greatly appreciate some help with authenticating this dior. The seller does have a good positive feedback -- but it seems this is the first $100+ item they've sold, especially in designer/luxury goods. All other feedback is mostly with gift cards, so I wanted to be extra sure about this item's authenticity. Thanks!

Thank you in advance! :smile1:

No. It will feel different in real life, especially if you compare them by touch side-by-side.

Thank you, that's good to know.

I wonder how other super fakes feel in real life...for example prada saff totes. At least with lambskin you can really feel the difference. But saff, I feel like that would be hard to tell since it's such a tough leather.

Haha, just rambling my thoughts away.

This is a good discussion. What you will notice is that leathers ultimately feel different in comparison to fakes. Most fakes use plastic because they are cheaper to produce. With plastic, it is very easy to achieve the same look as a grained/cross-hatched leather without having to tan leather in a specific way, and then finish it a certain way. With Saffiano leather, it will be a bit harder to feel the difference because Saffiano leather feels a bit plasticky, but you can definitely tell by the smell. Leathers are tanned with oils that have added scents so it will have a distinctive smell.

Leather also wears differently. At the corner of a bag where a lot of friction happens, the surface of leather rubs off to expose a material that resembles suede. This doesn't happen with plastic. The plastic wears thin without exposing suede-like material, and just lightens up in colour with rubbing.

Good info, you are so knowledgeable! I gather caviar would also be easy to replicate then. But yes, I didn't even think about corners rubbing and with real leather you do see the suede-like material.
I gather too with wear and tear, a fake will always be a fake and quality will never be up to par...thus it will wear and literally tear.

I agree. And no matter how well a fake holds up, or how close it looks to the real thing, I only want the real deal. The brand should be the one getting the money for the design that we love, not some scam artist.

And if I can't afford a bag for full price, and may risk getting a fake by getting it through an unauthorized dealer, then I rather not get it at all. Imagine my embarrassment when someone identifies that my bag is fake!
