Coach Saddle Flap Fletcher??

I posted this yesterday but for some reason was having difficulties finding where I should post, then couldn’t find the reply. So I got the app, this should help.

The name is Charles Pack Varsity Leather Dark Saddle Mahogany. I bought from bananina.co.id there still has same style yet different color. When i check on internet such as ebay or amazon there is no different with mine, the back is not leather. I dont know if this bag is old stock(version) or not. Few days ago i went to the coach store, almost their sling bag’s leather on the back.
My questions is this bag authentic or not? Thankyou

The name isn't important when comparing details on bags, the only thing that matters is the style number. I may have worded it poorly in my post, but the other bags WITH THE SAME STYLE NUMBER AS YOURS all have the same solid color back.

Here is your post:
https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/authenticate-this-coach.889527/page-1811#post-32031017

Here are the current Ebay listings of backpacks with the same style number - BUT PLEASE NOTE, not all the listings are actually for style 72226, some sellers are including several styles or style numbers in their listings.
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=coach+backpack+72226&_sacat=0
Please look at all the ones that actually have the style number 72226 on the backpack price tag or stamped inside on the creed patch and post what makes them different from yours, but remember that different color backpacks will all have the same style number code, do not include color differences on the bag or on the price tag codes.

Also, you said you bought it from bananina.co but I can't find that anywhere. I think https://www.banananina.co.id/ is what you meant to post.

If the strap tapers towards the ends, it's a Classic Shoulder Bag, style 9170 from the early to mid 1980s.

I have several more bags I would like to have authenticated. All are in my possession and about to have a big bath! Thanks!
Weston Shopper Or is it just Bag? 9021
11”Long x 10 1/2” tall x 3” deep with 13” strap drop.
Rambler’s Legacy 9061
9 1/2” Long x 7 1/2” tall x 3 1/2” deep
Devon Bag 9908
9” Long x 7 1/2” tall x 2 3/4” deep.

All of them are genuine. The Weston is just listed as a Weston Shopper in the catalog.

Here I am with my fingers crossed that I didn't mess up this time.
In my possession.
Item: Madison Satchel Lg from 1986/7? I found it in a 1987 catalog
Style: 9765
Size: About 12 x 7.5 x 5.5 with a 44" long strap.

Comments: Came with the box, brown Coach paper, registration form and the little packet of inserts with the copyright of 1986. Never used. The leather is a bit stiff, might need some moisturizer. All indicates that it should be authentic, but nothing is for sure so I need your expert opinion. The top zipper is dark on top and more shiny underneath if is a "clue" for something. TIA as always.

If we're still talking about the black Duffle Sac, it couldn't be older than 1994 since it has the "variations:" creed rather than the "Scars, scratches" creed. The wording was changed at the same time or sometimes even months after the new serial format came into use in 1994-95, and it varied with the plant. The serial numbers were often changed before the new re-worded creed stamp was put into use. But there's no way it's from the 1980s.

HI HYACINTH! LONG TIME! I want to thank you AGAIN for the work you put into the lists from 2015? 16? Time Flies! CatBird & BB found me the original links, Reprinted the whole book & put it in a safe place.Like a File Cabinet? MUCHO GRACIAS! Anyway I contacted seller, to find out exac=attack-ly What she put all over the bag & to say it had to be at least 1994(I can see 9085 under my magnifying light with my xray vision-HA! But I agree. Heres the Creed from my 1995 Duffle..
P1350733.JPG
And I Have just gone through my thumbdrives with nearly all the bags I've rehabbed & sold during the past 6 years & I see the Creed wording change .She says its from 1987-90. I say PO-TAY-TOE . I'm 99 % sure its authentic.I've rehabbed too many of them over the years to be that off. I've also scrubbed off many a serial number. And Purchased bags from 90s-2000s with faint or barely there serial numbers. And have purchased 1990s-2000s that are just made sloppily. The leather feels ICKY because there is shoe polish & gott knows what else on it. My fav is the story of the bag I received from a guy that put vitamin E oil & leather wax on the bag. Because he read somewhere about that mixture being Da Bomb. At least it was VIT "E" and Not FISH OIL.I had to wash that bag 5 times in the washing machine & still had to use acetone. This bag is gonna need Acetone.Oh Hooray

ETA - what little I can see of the serial font looks authentic.
I really can't read the creed so I can't tell you if it is authentic. I believe they changed the strap attachment to two grommets in the late 80s sometime. I've seen several with NYC creeds that used two grommets.
And Thanks Whateve! I suddenly noticed that the 90s Duffles had 2 grommets(TWICE as much FUN to CLEAN!) I've been avoiding bags w/ Turnocks & Brass, but I got to the bottom of my pile & I'm repairing piping(ugh!) painting with toothpicks & sewing(blah) Steel WoolingTurnlocks,...
I'm sure the bag is FINE-I've compared it to my pics, Catalogs & one Duffle I still have.
Thanks for the Trivia FUN! And of course your Help.

Yes, it's genuine, from 1986 or 1987. Nice find!

I think they switched to two grommets when they realized that one wasn't enough. I've seen a few where the grommet failed, especially when they were prone to put it in the center, right in the middle of the seam.

Makes sense..Still- I would Rather Clean 2 than 4..hahaha :giggle: Actually I never really noticed it until today.I checked my pics & the 1980s Duffle had 2 grommets.I've been working on a late 70s Duffle for weeks ! It was sooo Filthy & strap was a mess.I Forgot to take BEFORE pics.Anyway- the color was lighter than Saddle.when I got her-After Washing several times she came out looking like Mahogany. Now? Either Saddle or Brit Tan.Kind of like a MOOD RING BAG :eek:I will take Before pics of my NEW projects for Rehab& Rescue. See ya over there SOON.

It’s not the bag I tself that bothers me, but the strap. I’ve never seen one like this, where underside shows the suede in between the leather seams on either side

A lot of vintage Coaches have that kind of strap, including several vintage bags in my own collection. As we keep saying here, you can only compare 2 bags of exactly the same style.

And since I don't feel like going back through three pages of posts to see if anyone commented on the hardware or the name (did I already ask if the strap tapered at the ends?) it looks like a Classic Shoulder Pouch, NOT a Saddle Flap. In fact I'm not even sure what a Saddle Flap IS. I have several thousand names on file but that's not one of them, at least it's not coming up in any searches.

THIS is what you probably have, note the narrowness of the buckles and the tapered strap - 1986 catalog. The back of the strap looks exactly like it should FOR THAT STYLE.

Yes, this is EXACTLY what I have, tapered straps and thinner brass, and the way the leather of the strap on the back is a bit graduated as it gets closer to the bag, thank you! So was this a more affordable style of Coach, back then in 1986?

The reason the buckle is so thin is because it is solid brass, rather than plated. If they used a large buckle, it would have been really heavy.

It is more simple than many Bonnie Cashin designs. I think it might have been partly to cut costs and also to make a streamlined design. It was a little cheaper than bags that had more hardware. It was a very popular style and was made for a very long time.

So this was a Bonnie Cashin design then? I’m really in love with the deep burgundy color of it. Would this be aubergine?
