Thanks Hyacinth and Whateve :smile1: Just trying to gather information for the next time I come across a red bag.
It was a NYC bag--it was a XXX-XXXX format serial. The creed read normally (no misspellings or grammatical errors) but was pretty dark where it was stamped so everything really stood out. (This was also strange to me since usually I only find the darker colored bags--black, brown, navy, etc.) Both parts of the turnlock looked correct--4 prongs on the flap piece and 2 prongs on the turnlock itself and no grooves.
If I come across it again when I go out again on Thursday I'll be sure to have a fully charged phone so I can upload pictures here for a second opinion!
You're welcome! It is common for NYC creeds to be stamped deeply and distinctly. I think there is a good chance the bag was authentic.

I've seen some variation in the lengths of stitches on NYC bags. I've seen it where the stitches get smaller around the corners. I don't know if this was intentional or if the machine had trouble advancing over the thicker leather at the corners. I've also seen a few places where the stitches were wider like it skipped ahead more than it should have. This can happen if the person guiding the machine pushes too hard.

As far as the color is concerned, on my NYC red bag, the thread matches pretty good, but is slightly lighter than the leather. In the places where the leather has darkened, the thread looks much too bright. On a later red bag, the thread seems darker than the leather.

Good Evening Everyone! Since the topic of stitching has come up..Maybe you Remember our discussion about my Black UA stewardess with the BROWN stitching? We were never able to determine why the stitching was Brown, although I do think the contrast looks VERY KOOL! At one point it was discussed whether the bag was dyed black, but the thread remained brown..I now know that my UA Stews wasn't dyed. Another mystery?
I have 2 Vintage "shoulderbags" one is mahogany brown the other one is blue..I thought someone used a couple stitches of red /rust thread to repair the blue bag, but the brown bag has the same visible couple of stitches of red/rust thread in the same place.!! ts exposed ~because that style is weak near the brass buckles which attach to the shoulderstrap....So..perhaps they used red thread throughout? Maybe red thread was on sale ?? OR Most Likely ...the color changed due to its age or contact w/ body oils, pollution, chemical reactions..or the Brass buckles.. It is just like when bleach gets on something colored..you get a reddish~ rust colored hue around the bleach mark..okay, thats my boring theorem...Thread ages & changes color just like leather & brass age & change color..:coolio: c'est oui??

Any tips for searching this thread? I have tried searching links and they never seem to pop up any results. I don't want to ask about one that has already been looked at.

Thanks!

It depends what you're searching for.

Searching for seller names or IDs is tricky because the forum's search doesn't recognise "characters" like dashes, underscores, asterisks, etc. But it's usually the best way to find information on a specific seller.

Tell us what you're looking for and we may be able to suggest the best way and place to search

Item: COACH PERFUME PRINT WRISTLET 40551 Black Jacquard Leather Purse 6800
Listing number: 381074199230
Seller: ladymort3

I think this bag looks fake. Cracking leather? and creed number looks very weird. This bag with wristlet re-listed today.
The bag is fake. It looks like cheap vinyl. The pattern doesn't match at the seams. It has the old creed wording for a leather bag made in the US. The wristlet is fine. It was a limited edition to commemorate Coach's first perfume.

You can't search links. One of the reasons we ask posters to put the seller name, listing number, and item title is to aid in a search. When a request only contains the link, you won't be able to find it in a search. I usually try to search the seller name as long as it doesn't have any special characters, or if there is a unique word in the title, or the style name, I'll try that.

I'll report the fake bag. I thought it looked like cheap vinyl too since it was cracking like that. Wasn't sure about the wristlet. Thank you whateve.

If you're searching for a particular item that is or was listed on ebay, you enter the item number between two stars, eg *123456789*. If you can remember the style name you can try that too.

Thrift store find. Zippers brass but pull and ring are silver. Size is 8h x 11w.
Not sure about the bag, but leather was really thick and heavy.

Well it might be meant to be: Found the red dinky again! (I was in the neighborhood so I decided to stop by and grab it.) Here are a couple pictures. Let me know what you all think :smile1: The dimensions are: 9x5x2. The first picture shows what I was talking about with the stitching--how it's a slightly different shade and the widths change. It IS somewhat close to the corner, so being a somewhat competent seamstress myself...I can see somebody was anticipating the corner!
