This looked interesting until I saw the serial number starts with T3L. Fake, right?

You're correct. It's fake. You can also see the impression of a border around the serial number, something that shouldn't be there.

ETA: The seller also has this fake with a PIT prefix:

He is still at it. This one says "made in u.s." but the black creed he shows for a tan bag says made in Costa Rica. A lot of his listings are new, and don't show creeds. Anyting else we can do?

Unless you know for sure an item is fake, you shouldn't report it. The seller put the same creed picture on two listings. He also has a black Patricia's Legacy listed. It might be an honest mistake.

Well, I just got off the phone with coach customer care.
The agent said she doesn't find the brown one in the database. She said different countries may release different authentic Coach products but to her knowledge this item was never sold in the US.
arggh.

Coach employees are known to give inaccurate information. A Coach employee is one of the last people I would trust with regard to styles, colors, items made by Coach, etc.

Please wait for Hyacinth to chime in.

You're apt to get much more informed and accurate information from people who actually buy the items and study them for years. Coach employees are trained to sell items that are currently in their stores and in their computer systems. If an item is older, made for an international market, made as a department store exclusive or otherwise outside the normal parameters encountered by employees, they're more likely to give misinformation than to admit they don't know something.

If the fob was made for a non-US market it might not even be in Coach US's database. Please never depend on Coach for accurate information either, their computer search system is very limited and at least up until a few years ago didn't even show items made just for the Factory Outlet Stores. There are plenty of keyfobs that were never sold in the US, but thanks to fellow tPF members and their international friends, some of us have managed to find and add them to our collections. But you probably won't find them listed at Coach US.

If Coach is only basing their search on a style and color number found in their computers, that's useless, BOTH the black and the brown Cows would have exactly the same production codes and style numbers. The color code SC/MC simply means Silver hardware with MultiColor and is used on 90 percent of keyfobs with silver hardware and more than one color on the charm.

I'll say it again, I have no doubt that the brown one is genuine. Fakes makers don't waste their time copying every single detail perfectly like that, there's not enough profit in it.

Much gratitude and respect to all of you who've helped with this issue!!

I don't think so. There are rare items that you don't see a lot of and as such, they won't show on Google if there weren't any postings.

Look at the following side by side comps. I'd be hard-pressed to consider that your item is fake! (Hyacinth's opinion is more than welcome for a second opinion.) The only thing yours doesn't have is the lozenge but hangtags can fall off so that doesn't prove anything.

Again, I don't believe it's fake but would love another opinion.

ETA: in looking at the side by sides, I notice that your cow has longer legs and either shorter ears or your cow has a larger diameter. The horns have a slightly different shape too.

This is why I love side by side comparisons. You can see so many details that might escape you otherwise.

You are SHARP! But here's a better picture in the light of day - the legs don't appear quite so long. Perhaps the shadowing effect made them look elongated in the previous picture.

If in fact the legs ARE shorter or longer than the one you have, does that prove it's a fake, or could there have been variations in the genuine ones?

I think many of the differences are due to the Cows being photgraphed at different angles. The black one is shot straight on, the brown one is tilted slightly.

Stitching is never going to be exactly the same between two items even if they're the same style. From the style number, the original was made in or around late 2010, and the newer ones listed on Ebay with the F Factory Store codes probably made no earlier than the last 12 or 18 months. Not only will there be small changes in cutting and assembly details, but I've noticed even the Coach stamps and hangtags aren't made quite as precisely as they used to be 4 or 5 years ago.

Something else to consider - if the brown one is fake, where are the rest of the brown fakes? No fakes maker is going to make just a tiny handful (or just a one-off!) of a keyfob that is exactly like the original including a lot of time-consuming details - where's the profit in that?

(I actually like the brown one. The Black and white one appeals to me as a Midwestern girl because I love seeing hundreds of those beautiful black and white Holsteins on my drives around Wisconsin, but the brown one has a more European look - Guernsey, maybe? The brown fur color reminds me of Highland cattle which I think are gorgeous. And forgive me if I get the names wrong, I'm a City Girl!)

Well, here's hoping someone on Ebay feels the same! :lawl:

I didn't report it. Only report things after one of you confirm something is a fake. I am not that qualified to make those assumptions. Unless it's a signature lining inside a signature purse with peeling leather and ripped handles!
