It's a compartment bag. It looks fine.
The solid color version was #9850 so the spectator version might be 6850.
It was originally made for the Coach boutique but after it didn't sell, it was transferred to the outlet and sold there.
Would this be a real Coach bag? Please authenticate. Thanks.

I doubt it. Do NOT buy that bag.
Serial numbers with J8Y- prefixes are often found in fake bags, and this one has the same red flags we've found in many other fakes including incorrect details in the serial fonts.
If you've checked the Fakes List posted here at tPF and also the one at Ebay written by Daria48, both recommend against buying any Coaches with serial prefixes starting with J and with mid to late 1990s year codes.

There are a few other flaws with the bag, such as the zipper pull. I believe it is fake too.
I don't think it is fair to advise buyers to avoid Coaches with a J prefix. 1/12 of all authentic Coach purses made in the mid to late 1990s have a J prefix. It would be preferable to advise buyers to get them authenticated. I have no problem advising buyers to avoid any bag with a J8Y prefix.
