What do you look for to know if it's authenticate or not?
There are tons of things. First I look at the creed. The format and wording have to be correct for the time period. The factory code must match where the bag says it was made, and the font has to be correct for that particular factory. If I own the same style, I compare the listing to my bag to see if the details are correct. If not, I compare it to pictures in my files of an authentic bag. There are certain things that counterfeiters often make mistakes on, such as the type of hardware or the size of the pocket. Sometimes a bag is fake but there aren't any pictures showing the things that would prove it is fake, so I can never say with certainty that a bag is authentic unless I have it in my hands.

Red flags ...looks like the back plate is 3D and there are marks around the serial.

Thoughts?

There are a few valid H5G- serials, but this ain't one of them.

ALL the fonts are wrong - serial number (especially the "G"), the creed itself, and the Coach logo above the creed which also as too big a cartouche and too big a border. It's hard to see clearly but the back of the oval turnlock plate also has indents for the prongs that shouldn't be there. It looks like the stitching on the flap and the turnlock tab is two different shades of red.

A real H5G- creed showing the slightly different size of the plant code is below.

We know that some bags with 'BEAN BAG' in the creed are authentic, but this aint one of them!

Here's the link to the bean bag update from a while ago for anyone interested.

http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-855067-197.html#post26634407

Just to add a comment to my post in that link - I said "My deepest and most sincere apologies for anyone who may have had a genuine bag removed or disposed of. I'll try to get the various Guides updated as soon as possible. I'll also cross-post this at the Hall Of Shame and the Answers threads."

Because of the major F***-up that Lithium has subjected the Ebay Forums AND the Guides to, I haven't even tried to correct the original Guide, and wasn't even able to post a new Guide with the updated information. My old friend Daria48 managed to post an updated page since her original Fake Serial Numbers List also had the wrong information on the Bean Bags. Here it is:

The Curious Case Of The Coach Bean Bag

Authenticate this bag- confused about style numbers

I am in the market for the large sequin Maggie Sophia from a few years ago.... From the research I have done it came in two sizes 15945 (smaller) 15940 (larger) but ebay has a large one listed with 16271, is it real or fake? Now I am confused does anyone know the real style number to the big Maggie?

Here is the listing.

I have several lines of defense--I have a list of known fake serial numbers in a google document that I keep on my cell phone and can update easily. If it doesn't show up on there, I go to the almighty Google. (I know it's not a failsafe, but it IS helpful.) Then there it gets a little murky. After that I typically handle the bag a little bit and look it over. Does it scream "Coach" on most of the hardware? (Coach is somewhat minimalist in putting its name on the hardware.) Does the leather feel and/or smell real? Does the brass feel heavy? Does it have the signature lining on both the inside and outside? (This is a dead giveaway its a fake.) Usually I spend at least 20 minutes in a store trying to decide if it's worth the chance. (If it's on the floor this is when I find a couple things to try on and hide in a dressing room while I Google!)

I hope the Google document you mentioned is the Daria48 Fake Numbers List from Ebay, otherwise I'm going to question its validity. That's the only list I use other than the one I've posted here at tPF which is a collaboration with Daria48.

And the most accurate way of sussing out a fake is by comparing it against photos of known fake and genuine bags that you've saved over the years and kept on file. Google is no help there. And the creeds and serial numbers are usually the key to proving something's fake.

There are a surprising number of counterfeits with even stitching and thick leather. In fact when Coach was setting up their Chinese plants the quality of the work for the first year or two was sometimes WORSE than the counterfeit versions.

There are a tiny handful of mid-2000s Coach bags that DO have Signature fabric on both the inside and outside although the outside Cs may be just part of a patchwork design.

It's fake. The creed is "fuzzy." The font doesn't match any authentic G plant creeds. The top of the pocket is too high. There should be a center bottom seam rather than two side seams.

Just a comment on the seller, justsellityork.

"Top rated seller" or not, I don't recommend her because she doesn't do her homework to verify that her listings are authentic. She sold this fake for about $55 including shipping:

Would someone please authenticate? I tend to be leary of retail outlet sellers.
This is for a mini Borough in brown. Seller is retailfashionoutlet; supposedly a store display. They get mainly good reviews, but some buyer claim they have received fakes.

Thank you in advance for your time!!
I don't see any problems with that bag.

It looks like the seller might purchase truckloads of department store returns, damages, shopworm and outdated items and as such, gets many complaints. From what I see of the listings, the descriptions aren't inaccurate but the buyers don't read or comprehend what they see described.

Although there have been cases where trusted sellers who buy pallets from department stores have received fakes (returned by dishonest customers), many honest sellers also get unwarranted feedbacks alleging items are fake when those accusations are totally false.

Check out Coach's own toolhaus and see how many "fakes" Coach is accused of selling! We know that if you buy from Coach, you get genuine Coach!

did you see how many people gave bad feedback because they didn't receive feedback from Coach?
