Hi All,

I came across this Bleeker bag on a local auction site. I don't feel comfortable posting the link (as it will include my location and the seller's address), so I'm going to add the information here:

Seller's posting:
Selling my Coach messenger bag. I just no longer use it. Was 450 new and still in great condition. Just needs repairs on one of the straps and its good to go. A beautiful bag for men and women. only asking 130 obo because it needs reapirs. (*all mistakes are their own.)

I'm still waiting for a photo of the entire bag and the "repair" that needs to be done...but just wondering if it's authentic?

Thanks in advance!

It's hard to say if something's authentic if we can't see the entire bag. I don't see anything that screams fake but there's no way I'd buy it OR authenticate it without more photos.
My concern (and one of the reasons why ask for links to the listing when requesting authentication) is that the seller might not be using her own pictures of the actual item.

You say the bag is listed on a local auction site yet the links you posted are images taken from an ebay listing. I'm wondering if the seller stole pictures from another seller.

Please post a link to the listing.

I think that is highly unlikely since the basic bag wasn't introduced until 1974, which is late for them to have still been using the metal or fabric tags. It also seems unlikely that it wouldn't have a pocket.
Maybe it isn't a basic bag??..could it be one of those sample designs? This is very intriguing..I didnt see a place where a pocket could /would be, and why would anyone remove a pocket??

It is an authentic slim satchel standard. It had a glued-in serial number at one time. It either fell off or was removed by a previous owner. The glued-in serial numbers may have been used from the late 70s up to early 80s, during which time the creeds included a registered trademark symbol. I don't recall seeing any evidence that these styles were Bonnie Cashin inspired.

Thank you whateve! I wondered the same thing about the glued-in serial number, but wanted to make sure. I really like it and have carried it, but would hate to know I was carrying a Foach. I was ready to cut the pocket off and donate it to the senior center store if it was a fake. I realized I have two of the same bag, so I was going to sell one, but wanted to make sure there was one for me.

This bag looks like a larger version of the tan BC tote I have, so I wondered if they kept up a similar style because of the popularity of her bags. Hence, inspired by BC. It was just a thought. :thinkin:

You're welcome. I think that there is a tendency to attribute all early styles to Bonnie Cashin, but I remember reading that Lillian Cahn came up with the idea for the shopping bag style. Some of these were even made with Bonnie Cashin's label. I think in the beginning, they felt that putting Bonnie's name on everything would help things sell, since no one knew anything about Coach.

What do you think of this one? According to Coach.com, the city bag wasn't introduced until 1987. I've only seen a very few with a NYC creed, which would be likely if the 1987 date is correct. How could there be one as old as this seems?

The only style that could be is a City Bag, and from no earlier than 1987 since that's when it was introduced, in fact since it's stamped for NYC it could only be from 1987 or maybe early 1988. Either the factory let one slip through without a serial number, or there's something fishy about the bag or the photos. Just because the seller SAYS it's older doesn't make it so. It probably is genuine but I wouldn't want to try and re-sell it without a serial number.
