Welcome to TPF! If you are interested in vintage, please join us in the Vintage chat clubhouse.

The hangtag is not original to the bag. It even has a silver chain even though the bag has brass hardware. From what I can see of the bag, it looks okay, but without a complete picture of the creed, including the serial number, I can't authenticate it. What else about the bag looks different from other Reginas to you? I don't think this bag looks new as the seller states. If you magnify the pictures, the corners look lighter, like they're worn. There is additional wear along the top of the back pocket. I wish I could see the writing on the price tag more clearly. It looks like it says "...Lthr top handle pouch" - I don't see the word "Regina" on there. I'm not sure that tag actually came with the bag. The other two cards definitely didn't come with it. One of them refers to "fabric handbags" and the other "specialty leathers," which to Coach wouldn't mean regular glove-tanned leather.
I thought the wear was suspicious too since it was listed as new. And I've also noticed the differing hardware. Very strange.

Thanks for pointing the right direction to me! :) Had no idea the world of handbags are so big (in TPF). haha. X

Hi Good Morning,

I was looking to sell this coach bag on my ebay account for someone else, when I literally 10 minutes ago received a message from an ebay member stating "Hey, not sure if you knew or not but was interested in your Coach bag you have for sale. Upon looking at it, it is not real! Coach does not put pattern fabric on the inside of their purses. Your bag is also pealing around the handle which is a sign of fake. Plus, the seal on the inside is not a 16 digit number as all real Coach bags have. Only trying to help! Just wanted to let you know."

I do not condone nor sells fake. I should of had it authenticated first, But I assumed the person who gave me the bag to sell for them would not purchase a fake,as I don't know the coach brand very well. I have taken the listing down.

Can someone please verify that it is indeed fake.

Thank you.

I just purchased a Coach purse that wasn't as described: has black stains running along the vertical seams, colour loss on the bottom, some shiny stain on the interior. I had contacted the seller prior to buying to verify the color splotch-ness and she assured me it was just a reflection from the flash - not!

Anyway, she had originally listed the item as "no returns" but then said she would refund me the purchase price and her shipping charge (bought through Global Shipping so I would still be out import charges and Piney Bowes shipping charges) then she changed it to, give me $20.00 and I get to keep the bag. None of those appealed to me.

I contacted eBay and they said, oops sorry we don't have any buyer protection plan for eBay.ca purchases just plain old eBay.com purchases, but if you paid through PayPal go through them. So I contact PayPal and they say that yes they will refund me the total purchase price including all shipping/import charges but they can't force the seller to pay for the return shipping. Why can't their policies be consistent?

I paid 30.00 for the purse but shelled out 66.00 total for shipping etc. I am trying to figure out a way I can return this purse by yak from Ontario to Sacramento, it might take about 4 years but may only cost me the equivalent of food as it traverses the Rockies.

Are you close enough to a border city that it would be worthwhile driving down and mailing it from there?

I live not too far from Niagara so I have all my US purchases shipped to a friend's house or a US Shipping Address Service in NY and drive down and do a pick up every few weeks.

You are an honest and honorable seller having ended your listing to verify authenticity but your "messenger" is wrong.

I'd love to know the Ebay ID of the "expert" you were contacted by because she's dangerous! She's another who reads the BS guides that kick around the internet without knowing about accuracy and spewing bad information.

There's nothing wrong with your bag.

1. In 2003 when that bag was made, serial numbers did NOT have 16 digits. And in fact, the most characters in a serial number that I'm aware of would be 10 characters. (Maybe she's counting "NO." and the hyphen between the prefix and suffix but even then, it's not 16!)
2. It's a leather bag and the lining is absolutely correct for that bag and many other bags Coach has made.
3. Handles and straps wear but I don't see any indication of "pealing" (sic) as she describes.

You might want to direct the person who contacted you here because your bag is absolutely legal to sell. It's authentic and it's the wannabe buyer who needs an education.

Just a note though: When selling items that you (personally) didn't purchase from an authorized retailer., it's a good idea to run the pictures by authenticators to verify that it's authentic.

BTW, if your buyer took the time to search ebay for "Coach 9335" she would have found quite a few of the same style with the same lining and same serial number format.

Hi BeenBurned,

Thank you so very for your quick response! It is beyond appreciated! I was honestly about to throw the bag in the garbage. I was beyond livid and was literally going to notify the person this afternoon who wanted me to sell the bag for them, that it was fake and I had to throw it away.

1. I did send her the links that you provided to me of the same style as my bag...it looked identical to me,but she said those we're fake as well.
2. Her Ebay id is aprilsc.

These we're her exact messages:

Dear aprilsc,

Hi,

And these are fake as well correct?

Just want to teach myself as well . I should of had it authenticated at the purse forum. Sorry again!

Dear couturestreasures,

These that you showed me are fake! Another thing is Coach has mostly leather hang tags not metal. There is a 16 digit number on the patch I'd on the inside of the bag if it is a real one. So of you only see a 5 or 6 numbers it is a fake. Take care!

Dear couturestreasures,

You are so welcome! Only trying to help! Thanks for not getting upset about it cause some people get offensive about people telling them about their items. I honestly was only trying to help! I see this often! Have a blessed day!

Dear aprilsc,

Hi,

Thank you so much for the information. As this is not my personal bag,I was selling this for someone else. I don't know coach that well. I have removed the ad and will no longer sell this. I'm actually going to throw this away. Thank you very much as I honest to God had no idea. You saved me from embarrassment and possibly a negative on my account. Thank you so very much again!

Again,I automatically assumed she was right and took the listing down as soon as I received her message! As again,I don't know the brand and don't condone reselling of fakes.

Just as I was replying to you, I just received a message from another ebayer I guess who saw my post on here and also messaged me on ebay saying the ebayer was 100% wrong and my bag is indeed authentic. None the less,I will take your advice and items that I don't get from an authorized dealer and have them authenticated before listing. As this has given me such a headache! Thank you also for your information for coach bags,as I can no the history a little better!

Thank you so very much again for your help! I

Also, sorry for my typos! I was typing fast and also trying to relist the bag. I will re edit this post!

Your response was very polite and respectful and in not knowing whether she was right or wrong, you did the right thing in ending the listing and having it authenticated.

That said, if there are any Coach sellers here, they need to block aprilsc because she might allege that your 100% authentic item is fake. (You should add her to your BBL too!)

As someone who sold one bag and one keychain in February, she has a bit of nerve to consider herself as expert.

Understand that I can appreciate members who want to see a safe marketplace, but to accuse sellers of something of which they aren't guilty is reprehensible.

aprilsc is wrong about your bag and about the others on ebay and Bonz.

Comments: Hi guys! I'm new in TPF! :D yayy! I've been eyeing this for a while but I am unsure of its authenticity due to the tag. It is different from all the other Coach Reginas I have been (online) and the beige stitching on the tag raises some alarm. But I am not sure. Again, serial number hidden and not listed... hmm. Thoughts?

That price tag DEFINITELY didn't come with the bag. Top Handle Pouch styles weren't even introduced until at least several years after the Regina was discontinued. The price tag style is also much newer than the Regina itself.

I don't know if the seller charming_myra is deliberately trying to deceive her buyers, but I personally would NOT buy from a seller who did that. And as Whateve said, there's no way to tell if the bag is genuine without seeing the full creed stamp and serial number.

And the "New with Tags" designation is COMPLETELY FALSE when the tags didn't come with the bag. There's a LOT of wear visible just on the first photo, that bag has been carried regularly for at least three months. I can excuse an uneducated seller from not knowing how to match the style number on a price tag with the style number inside the bag, but THERE'S NO EXCUSE FOR CLAIMING THAT A BAG WITH OBVIOUS WEAR ON THE EDGES COULD EVER BE "NEW". There are also what look like surface scratches that could be from a dog or cat or just fingernails in the same area of the top photo where the light glare is, and evidence of wear around and above the inside creed stamp.

Do NOT buy from "charming_myra " / charming myra

couturestreasures:

Not only is she wrong about metal hangtags - in fact if you phone Coach to ask for a replacement hangtag, you'll get metal one - but that jacquard woven fabric lining was used in MOST all-leather Coaches between about 2001 to maybe 2007 or later.

That self-appointed expert was wrong about everything. Like BeenBurned, I can't even think of ANY serial number configuration that would have 16 digits. And a tiny handful of Coaches, mostly items made in conjunction with the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, actually did have 6-digit serial numbers.

BTW, there is one problem with your listing - you need to show the entire face of the bag so people know what they're getting. Nowhere in your photos is there a pic of the entire front of the bag. If someone looks at your first photo, they might think the bag has Signature fabric on the outside. Your first photo, the Gallery photo, should show the bag in a way that's similar to but NOT a copy of Coach's own picture, which is always the entire face of the bag including the entire strap, like the picture below. Looking at your photos, I had no idea what kind of style it was until I looked up the number and found a Legacy Small (NOT Studio) Flap.

And notice that Coach shows it with a metal hangtag. You might want to send that "expert" a link to these posts.

Is looks ok, the actual color may be a bit darker. I've never seen a red Berkeley in person but the catalog pics show a slightly darker red.

It was actually called a Berkeley Saddle Bag.
It should be much darker. It isn't a burgundy but it is a dark, rather than a bright, red.
