I think the color could be aqua. I have a few bags in aqua that were all made in the last few months of 1996, but mine are all classic unlined bags. Coach called the color aqua even though it looks more like mint to me. Mine were all made at the D plant, not C, so it might not be related.
Thanks for the photos, those are some cute bags!!
I had a small backpack in the aqua, but this one is different, unless it faded all around to this color.
But I don't think so, the color is too even all around. It really is like mint green.

You're welcome. Was your backpack one of the unlined kinds? It is possible that they used the same dye but the leather used for this bag was different enough to take a dye differently, or the fact that it was made in a different plant made a difference. Or it could be a totally different color. That seems likely, since colors didn't usually cross from one design line to another. Without a catalog, I don't know how we can know.

The colors in the listing were different in every photo. How could the seller expect a buyer to know what color to expect?

Comments: Does this bag look authentic? I worry that the creed doesn't say 9892 which should be the # for the Chrystie style. Thanks for the help!
The bag was made before 1994 so it has a unique serial number, rather than the style number. It looks authentic. The seller is totally wrong with that tidbit about YKK zippers.

Hi I have been reading through all the posts in this thread--fascinating.

Would someone please authenticate this bag I bought on eBay?

I have already purchased this bag.

Thanks!

The seller's photos are really bad and not clear enough or of the right areas of the bag to give a firm opinion. The creed is either really badly stamped or the photo is out of focus just enough to be unreadable, and we need to read it. The font used for the number doesn't look quite right though. We really need clear pictures of the entire bottom panel of the bag showing the stitching and detail around the edge, and also clear pictures of the entire top zipper end to end showing the zipper pull and the strap mounting hardware, plus an inside pic showing the entire inside pocket.

If you've already paid for it, please send pics of those areas when you get the bag. Right now I'm not comfortable with what I'm seeing though. I personally would not have bid on that based on what I'm seeing of the creed and on the lack of important details in the photos.

More opinions are welcome.
ETA - I'm posting an adjusted photo of the creed in the bag you're asking about, under that is a creed from a different style but from the same plant, month and year. The serial fonts and creed details don't match.

I agree. Another thing I would like to see is a picture showing the size of the pocket in relation to the rest of the bag, but at this point I'm leaning towards probably not authentic. You could also ask the seller if there is anything stamped on the buckles. If there is, that's a really bad sign.

ETA: I think I see something stamped on the underside of the buckle. I would ask the seller to cancel the sale if at all possible.
It's not at all legible in the enlarged grainy picture but based on the location and stamp spacing, it sure looks like "solid brass" to me.

I found a little bag at Goodwill today. It is really cute! Can you tell me if you think it is real? Is it normal to have a tag with info about it being a special edition? I appreciate your help!
That bag looks good and yes, it had a special edition hangtag.

There have been cases of very scary "good" fakes but this doesn't appear to be fake at all.

Other opinions or confirmation are welcome.

It looks good to me too. :smile1:

Are you ladies saying that if a buckle has the words 'solid brass' stamped on them that it's always an indication of a fake Coach? I thought that some of the really early bags DID in fact have that stamp on their buckles. Please verify this fact for me......:confused1:

Thank you very much Hyacinth. I am attaching photos. The buckles do say "solid brass." The grommets on the strap are silver. The leather is shiny and stiff.

I forgot to quote you when I commented on this bag. Please read my comments in post # 3283. I think the bag is fake.

That is really unusual. I'd love to see it. They stamped the serial numbers on pieces of leather before they assembled the bags, so it seems entirely possible that someone grabbed the wrong piece of leather.

I will post pictures of the briefcase creed when I can. thank you so much for looking at my red duffle bag.

I bought it and it was delivered April 10. I decided to post it because it does not just look or feel right to me. If it is a fake, is my next step to contact the seller and let her know that I had it authenticated on pF and see what she says?

TIA for all your help.

Some early NYC bags and Dakotas do have "solid brass" stamped on their buckles. I can't think of a case where an authentic bag would have a style number in the creed and "solid brass" stamped on the buckles.

It is fake. Contact the seller and tell her you had the bag authenticated, and it is fake. The creed is incorrect for that plant and year. Hyacinth posted a picture of what the creed should look like. The solid brass on the buckles and the mismatched grommets are further proof it is fake. I can't tell for sure from the angle of your picture, but the inside pocket looks like it might be too big.

Let us know what the seller responds. If she doesn't agree to refund your money, you might have to open a case with ebay.
Also, I could not get a good picture of the zipper.

I am also curious whether or not the words "solid brass" always indicate a fake.

Thank you to all the ladies who know much more than I--but I want to learn:smile1:

Oops forgot the attachment--I'm at work

It's strange that the buckles are brass and the grommets are nickel, no? I don't think that's right.............
That's usually one indication of a fake, but not proof since the strap could have been replaced.

Thank you so much Hyacinth and Whateve. I will contact the seller and let her know it is fake and let you know what she does.
