Thanks so much Hyacinth. So this would be a fake then? Glad I didn't bid on it but it sold!

I believe it is fake. Besides the incorrect style number (but it's close), the creed is too puffy and font is wrong. I'm a little surprised; I don't think I've ever seen this style faked.

Yes, the creed stamping looks wrong too, the Coach logo is too big for the creed, and did you notice that the serial number font looks a lot like the probably-fake Westin you asked about earlier?

I can't find any valid 1994 H plant creeds, but the H plant was using a different font on their serial numbers a year later although they still had the old-style creed. Both were very different from that apparent fake. The creed stamping is also "puffy" and you should never see that in bags from the 1990s or from any US plant.

Here's a 1995 H plant creed, notice the differences - real at the top, fake one below it.

ETA - correction - I did find a valid 1994 H code, here's a probably genuine Whitney with a J4H- prefix. Notice the slightly larger size of the H, that's what you should see in a genuine bag. The alignment of the numbers will usually be uneven too, in fact like all those fake J8Y- creeds, the serial stamping is TOO perfect.

Thanks ladies. I did think the creed looked a bit puffy and after my bad luck, aka stupidity, with the Westin I decided not to bid. I don't usually do this but I have let the seller know its a fake because I exchanged quite a few messages last night regarding shipping. I'll be interested to see if I get a reply.

Comment: I won this overnight. Please tell me its authentic

I really want to urge extreme caution when serial numbers from the mid to late 1990s starting with month code "J" are involved. There are just too many fakes with that month code, and the fakes are, for the most part, too accurate to risk it.

One thing that bothers me is that style wasn't introduced until early Fall 1997, not early Fall '96 like the serial indicates. But I'm worried about the serial number font. The first picture below is a fake J6D-9134, in a style that wasn't even introduced until 1999 - the font isn't exactly like the one in your bag but it's close. The second one is a genuine J6D- with the correct font.

As for the bag's details, I'm comparing it to this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Coach-Vinta...525?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item20e27dbc6d

The straps on yours are attached much further away from the middle of the bag and the turnlock tab, the bottom corners of the front panel look a bit more rounded on yours, the dowels on the tan one look thicker, and it looks like there's less movement possible in the straps because they're riveted more tightly together closer to the dowel, if that makes sense.

Here's another one similar to the tan one.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-Westo...713?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item51bb945219

and a newer one but with the same strap placement as the tan and black ones
http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-Westo...721?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item51bb945221

Every one I've looked at so far has the same strap placement and none of them match the straps on yours, and they're all from dates much closer to the actual introduction date. I don't think yours is genuine.
I just wanted to add that another thing that they got wrong on this fake is rivets on the straps. The rivets on an authentic Weston are concave on the backs. I can't tell if it is the case on this fake, but I've been noticing that most fakes tend to make the edges of the inside pocket too rounded.

What style is this bag trying to be, and what should the style number be, please?

Hi, I guess I've made mistakes for committing to buy these Coach key fob without checking the authenticity. Didn't appear to me that people would fake a key chain, but apparently I've just read that there are many! I googled for few hours and read guides and found some differences between the photos, but really there are too many pics put there..

Please, would highly appreciate if anyone could help me authenticate any or all of these. Maybe you own any or notice anything odd from the tag or packaging?

All are from same seller:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=191081998097 (Coach Garden Key Fob 64380)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=191096850044 (Coach Handbag Key Fob 69938)

I need to communicate further with seller as soon as I know. My gut says these are all fake, what a shame I didn't research before.. Thanks in advance!

It's trying to be a Logan Bag, style 9907.

It's hard to tell how close a copy it is since the seller can't seem to post photos right-side-up, but compare it to this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-RAR...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

The fake looks like there's too much of a gap at the tops of the side panels when the bag is closed, both the outside back pocket and the undeflap pockert should be rounded, not straight, and if you compare that top part of the front panel under the flap and how the underflap pocket is attached to the panel underneath, they're not quite the same, the top corners of that panel on the fake are rounded on the fake but squared off on the real one.

It's close enough to fool anyone unless you had a genuine one to compare it to, and unless you were really familiar with Coach creed and serial number stamping details.

Don't worry, you're ok this time. :smile1:

Keychains should ALWAYS be authenticated. I'm not kidding when I say there are probably at least a million fakes in circulation, since fakes are cheap to make, less than a dollar each in a low-wage country like China, and can be retailed for a much bigger per-unit profit percentage-wise than any handbag ever could.

They're also extremely dangerous since they usually contain large amounts of lead and other toxic ingredients, colors and fillers (Wal-mart and other discount stores were caught a few years back selling cheap imported keychains with very high levels of dangerous ingredients), and anyone with young children or pets should always be very careful to buy only genuine Coach keychains.

Fortunately all four of these are genuine.

Hi Hyacinth, thank you so much for your help & time! I am so relieved to hear that they're authentic. Yes, a lesson learned, lol!

I read somewhere (eBay guide) that:

  1. key fobs don't come w/ gift boxes and to be careful when a seller has many quantity of key fobs for sale.
  2. to be careful w/ bad image quality and visible hardware quality: some of this seller's pictures are pretty blurred and some hardware seem scratched.
I was so positive that they're fake after reading those guides & looked into some photo comparisons.. There were also differences in the charm colors.

I know many online guides may be outdated and not true. I will be extra careful next time I buy key fobs :]

Hi ! I love this bag and really wish to purchase it, unfortunately the serial no. of the Coach bag does not appear to end in 9870, which I believe is characteristic of the Coach court bags. Is it authentic?
