Needing help authenticating this. I'm a male (gay) but I still don't know much about purses/handbags. My cousin gave this to me as a graduation gift (she never used it) and I've never used it either. It has sat in my closet in the brown coach cover for two years now. I finally want to sell it but I want to make sure I can guarantee it is real. She did work at Coach for a few years and told me it was real, and I believe her, but I've searched the web for the number inside the purse and nothing really comes up. And I sort of need help trying to figure out what to call it when I do sell it. It seems to be called a mini signature messenger bag but I am not sure. I will post pics here too. Before I make an ebay listing I wanted to make sure it is real.

Item name: Mini Signature Messenger Bag (I think)
Year: 2004 (I think)

Thank you for your help!

edit: having trouble getting images to work correctly from imgur.com, I'm pretty tech savvy this shouldn't be this hard. Working to fix it to aide you all.

edit: Fixed!

It's an authentic bag from 2004.

ETA: BTW, welcome! It's nice to see a guy here.

Could someone please authenticate?

I found this today at a thrift store. I tried to find similar photos on my phone while still at the store before buying it. An ebay search of the style number turned up photos that looked the same as this purse. So I thought I would take a chance on it since it was cheap enough. Most of the ones I found on ebay were made in 2001 and in the United States, unlike this one that is China and 2003. Here are two auctions that were close in date and plant to the one I bought. Thanks for your opinions!

Hi, and welcome to tPF! :smile1:

It's genuine, style 5706 was called a Mini Sig Mini Messenger (you could probably drop the second "mini") made in September 2004. The color should be British Tan.

It's genuine and was called a Legacy West Hobo. By 2003 when this one and the other 2 you linked to were made, Coach had pretty much stopped making purses in the US except for a few all-leather styles. There's nothing suspicious about either location as long as the production dates match the appropriate plant codes.

Keep in mind though in your future shopping that ANY "Coach" with any of the Signature C fabric patterns on the outside that say on the patch that they were made in the United States are always fake. None of the famous C pattern bags were ever made here.

I just received this briefcase and I would like opinions please.
My initial concern was the indentations on the backplate where the tabs are, but I did compare to some other listings on ebay and now think that this particular style of (squared plate) turn lock DID have indentations.
Second is the poor stitching on the leather piece behind the turn lock - but...
you can see from my pics that this was obviously crudely repaired- hence the sloppy stitches?
The creed numbers seem a little large to me?
Maybe I am just being paranoid but would like reassurance either way.

I'm posting the listing, and also adding my own pics.

Noshoepolish really should look at that one.

I've seen a few other bags with that same font from 1998 or 99 from the C plant but it always seems like there were other problems with the bag. The usual serial font was like the first two below both in 1998 and through 1999.

Beekmans were faked a LOT, and this may be one of them. The shape of the turnlock especially at the corners isn't as sharp and squared as it should be, and the padded area above the turnlock doesn't look right either. I'll also add a pic of Coach's own drilldown pic.

I still have that fake one...I can pull it out and see if it matches that one.

There are several things off on this bag. The story patch matches my fake. The turn lock pad and pad above the backplate are off. Also, the authentic bags that I have or have had don't say "coach" on the strap pad. The fake one I have does.

Good morning!
I awoke to a SNAD case today because my "Coach bag is fake since it was made in China."
Help! Please authenticate the listing.
Also, links to Hyacinth's awesome guides would be appreciated so the buyer can learn a bit more for the future.
THanks so much.

The Guide with the list of countries should be the one on Authenticity Guide Myths:
http://www.ebay.com/gds/Coach-Authenticity-Guides-Facts-and-Myths-/10000000062607882/g.html

"Coach bags have been made in the USA, Italy (a few very expensive exotic leather styles are still made there), Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Hungary, Turkey, Thailand, China, India, and Vietnam. Coach will soon be making bags in the Philippines and other countries where they can find cheap labor, and they have made accessories like wallets in even more places such as France, Spain and others. Other than Italy, only the Asian plants except for Turkey and Thailand are still active at this time (2011). Production moved almost completely to China starting in 2000, and all Signature C fabric bags are only made in China and the other Asian plants and have only been made since 2000..."

The Coach stamp on the strap pad worried me too but it's a changeable part and can't be depended on to be original. The strap itself looks cheap though.
