Both. The number is on the fakes list. The leather on the black one especially looks horrible!
(Sorry, Whateve. I'd already quoted and was going to respond when I saw that you'd done so, so instead I've posted the link to one of the lists and the pertinent portion.)

M4S-7414 is showing up on quite a few fakes. The entire number is invalid and that style code would never be on a bag with that prefix - ALWAYS fake.

It's missing the O rings on the straps...at least on this side of the bag. There's no pic of the other side/strap. I was watching it until I noticed this and don't know if it can be repaired.

I think you mean the grommets. TheO-rings look ok. I doubt if the missing grommets could be replaced, and if they were, the metal colors probably wouldn't match.

Hi! This is my first post, so I hope I am doing this correctly. :p

I purchased this Stewardess bag on ebay, and have been reading all the helpful rehab tips on this forum. Now I have concerns that the bag I purchased is not authentic. (Wish I had found this place sooner - you are all so helpful!)

I searched the forum for the specific serial number to see if it had already been authenticated, and didn't find anything. Unfortunately, I did see that the prefix is at best questionable.

I emailed the seller, and she does not think it to be a fake. Thanks in advance for your help!

What specifically about the bag makes you think it is fake? I don't have a record of any authentic creeds with that prefix but I don't think that is enough to prove anything. Is some of the hardware silver rather than brass? Are the buckles stamped?

I didn't interpret her post to say that she questioned something specific but rather, I think she read some of Hyacinth's guides that said that any classic bags with a J month codes should be looked at by experts.

The grommets on the strap look silver rather than brass to me. The bottom inside the bag has a smooth piece of leather glued on, and all the other pictures of older Stewardess bags I saw (in my obviously limited reasearch) did not. Also, when I searched, I found a post stating that the prefix j4k should be considered fake.

I just checked, and the buckles are stamped.

Thank you for your help!

What is stamped on the buckles?

The Lighweight line came out in 1987 and included 3 different sizes of Drawstring Sacs, and at least one size Saddle Pouch was available through the late 1980s along with other styles of saddle-type bags like Riding Bags and Saddlery Bags. The zippered bucket was probably the Duffle Sac which has been around almost as long as Coach itself, so you could have seen them together any time between 1987 and 1989.

Thank you hyacinth. That time frame fits. The BT drawstring was the first bag I drooled over and will be looking for one in my travels. My initial attraction was the equestrian styling. Probably going to skip the faded blue drawstring I posted last night. It seems like a monumental rehab job for a beginner.
