This bag has been in my possession for about two years but I've never had it authenticated. I'd appreciate your opinion.

Lula's Legacy in British Tan...I've been studying the guides by Salearea and Sacsmagnifique but still can't be sure of the year this bag was made...96 or 06.

It looks good. It was made in 1996. Coach started using the numbering system in 1994, so it was a single digit for the year until 2004. 3 stands for 2003, and 04 stands for 2004, and so on.

Did you try to Copy & Paste the links from your previous post? That never works, the links get mangled.

I don't think anyone here knows enough about Ashleys to comment. They look ok to me and since they were MFF styles they probably were less likely to be faked. That's the best I can do, sorry.

Yea sorry :/ I'll post some pics if that'll help, but if not I understand. Thanks anyway!

Why doesn't then eBay do anything about repeat offenders? Or does it?
Ebay is really inconsistent in how they choose to sanction repeat offenders. If they're naughty enough, eventually, they'll be suspended. But as Hyacinth pointed out, ebay's bottom line is the most important thing to ebay and it's what they care most about.

Here's the Craigslist link, please take a look when you have a moment. Please ignore D&B and RL bags, I'm not interested in those. And thanks again!

If you're buying the lot, the Dooney is authentic too.
They look okay.
Hoping that my first foray into Photobucket is going to work. There should be 4 pictures. I bought this purse at Goodwill a few months ago. Hoping it's real. Wondering what exactly it is. It's small, soiled but I'm hoping it rehabs well.

It's genuine. I don't know the name of the style, though.

I think I know the answer but I want to confirm. It has J8Y as the prefix.

Thanks.

Thanks. I wonder whether the listing should be reported or the seller contacted. This doesn't seem to be a seller who would knowingly sell a questionable item.

I wouldn't report it unless I was sure it was fake, and I'm not. The same with contacting the seller. Unless we're 100 percent sure, the seller should be given the benefit of the doubt. All of us have probably reported what we thought were fakes that turned out to be genuine.

And I sure wouldn't think less of a seller especially one with a good record for selling something with a serial number that they could never expect to be fake and that we can't even be sure about. Right now there just isn't enough to say the serial number isn't right.

I'm not 100 percent sure but the date code is almost a year too early, the font of the serial matches a lot of other suspected or confirmed J8Y- fakes, and the magnetic snap doesn't look like it has the right stampings.

I love that I'm hard-pressed to find fakes on Bonz. They're removed nearly as quickly as they're reported!

But sometimes, a listing needs to be confirmed as fake as I don't want to report anything that might be genuine.

This listing has the infamous J8Y prefix:

Authentic Vintage Coach Black Leather Station Bag 5130
Bonz item: 140634339
Seller: fdfriedrich
http://www.bonanza.com/listings/Authentic-Vintage-Coach-Black-Leather-Station-Bag-5130/140634339

TIA!

That's a tough one, especially with only 2 pictures. But the leather turnlock tab especially the top, the rounded area, looks slightly mis-shaped, and th turnlock itself is a bit too far down the front of the bag. The strap's not original though.

I've found a few seemingly good bags with that prefix but they may just be very close fakes. I've never seen or saved a photo of one with any additional proof in the photo itself that the bag might be genuine, so it's still a "questionable" for me at least. I know I would NOT bid on that one but is that enough to report the bag?

Coach's 5130 pics are below.

Interestingly enough, of the 4 "Coaches" in Ebay's Current listings with that prefix, two are obvious fakes with Signature fabric
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251430201596
and
http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-Signa...910?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item3389fe8cee
one is a Beekman Brief that we've seen a lot of fake and questionable examples of recently (and we may have even looked at this one already), and the fourth has an incorrectly-copied serial number in the listing. The creed stamping on the Beekman looks fuzzy and the more I look at it the more I question it.

ETA - checking J8y_ in Completeds:

One Chelsea style 6003, the lining on other Chelseas from the same time period used the Lozenge fabric. This one is plain. The magnetic snap isn;t completely readable but doesn't "feel" right.

That J8Y- prefix is digging itself in deeper and deeper, isn't it?

The listing from bowler2012 was relisted:

I'm wondering if, based on further research and further suspicion around J8Y prefixes, if the two current listings on Bonz can be concluded as fake.

Thanks for checking it, BeenBurned. And as for eBay, yes, I understand for them it's not about keeping the market free of fakes, but about their own profit, but because of it who knows how many counterfeit bags stay in circulation and how many dishonest sellers keep making money on them... so sad...

Yup, too bad eBay all sellers don't have the morals and ethics that we have. We just need to try to do our best to report what we can, and keep reminding ourselves that we can't save the world.

In this case, I think we can, for a few other reasons too.

The style is listed as "NEW" in the Holiday 1999 catalog. J8Y- is September 1998 is just too early for that style. The earliest date I've found in any bag for sale is December 1999

The strap ends should be slightly rounded, not completely square. The strap also looks slightly too thick.

The opening to the main compartment isn't shaped correctly, and the magnetic snap isn't positioned right either. I don't think the magnetic snap has the correct stamping, it should have the maker's name (usually ROMAG or COMAG) and the US patent number but there just isn't enough stamping in the fake to fit all those letters and numbers. The stamped digits should go around the entire edge.
Compare it to this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-Brown...055?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item2334051a7f

Item: Coach Watermelon Coin Purse
Listing number: 181291597273
Seller: a2zebraboutique11

Comments: Not very many photos, but I can ask for more. Also, what are the dimensions of this bag? I can't find any photos of it modeled.

It's not a "purse" in any sense, it's just large enough to hold maybe a set of keys, an ID or some coins, but the strap would barely fit over someone's wrist. I use mine to hang from my purse strap and hold my mini garage door opener, it's not quite big enough to fit the larger opener that clips onto the visor.. It's not a wristlet either although the seller describes it that way. They won't even hold a very small basic cell phone.
