Welcome to tPF!
I saw your post at Ebay and found the same problems as the members there found. The "G" plant code has only been found in a few purses and briefcases from that time period, and the ones that seem to be genuine are very different in the fonts, format and basic details from the one you're asking about.
The first picture below is a genuine bag from that plant and made only 4 months from the date in your briefcase, but both the creed stamp and the serial number (the two were always stamped separately during this time period) are very different. The first one is from December 1995 (the code on yours would be August 1995 if it was genuine).
The second is from the same plant, year AND month as the date in yours, and was in a genuine bag. Yours should have an H5G prefix identical to this one, but it doesn't. The creed stamp, from the Coach logo at the top to the spacing of the letters, should also be identical and it's not. The Coach logo in yours has the old style letter font which Coach had already started to phase out - you can see the newer thinner letters in the logos of the three creed pics I posted.
The genuine G plant creeds from 1995 should have the serial prefix digits much farther apart than yours, the G should be slightly larger, and the "Made In the United States" at the bottom should be in slightly smaller letters than the rest of the creed stamp.
The third one from January, month code A, shows the same details as the first two. I've posted s slightly cropped pic from the one you bought for comparison.
I was also able to find one of the two fakes with the H5G- prefix that the Ebay poster mentioned, and it's a screamingly obvious fake, the year code 5 for 1995 is five years before those Signature C fabric styles were even made. Here it is if you haven't seen it yet:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Coach-Backp...5?pt=US_CSA_MWA_Backpacks&hash=item3f2b3a5a65
I'm sorry, but everything I'm seeing says Fake, even the leather part of the turnlock tab isn't quite right, both the shape and stitching. And I'd love to see the inside pocket and entire leather panel it's attached to, the fakes makers often get that wrong. Another problem in the one you bought is the slightly blurry lettering, the real Coach creeds are sharp and clear, and I don't think it's the fault of poor photography. The creed also looks slightly "puffy" which we normally only see on bags and items made in the early and mid 2000s from Coach's China plants, and on some fakes.
Thank you for your analysis and thorough response!
Does anyone have experience with Tophatter? Is it a generally reliable Coach auction?
Both bags are genuine. The Court Bag isn't strictly vintage since it was made in 1996. It doesn't have much longer to go though, only 2 years.
The dating on the other one isn't right, it would have been made some time between 1988 and 1993, probably nearer to the earlier date. Coach didn't start using the "Made in the United States" stamp under the creed until 1988. From the measurements and description it's probably a Pocket Purse, style number 9755
I can't speak for reliability since the site FORCES you to sign up just to see their listings, and seems to force you to link it to your Facebook account. While I understand that no one seems to be concerned about personal privacy on the internet these days, FB's privacy policy stinks, always has stunk, and always will stink. My opinion. They were started for the sole purpose of collecting as much info as possible that could be sold to and used by advertisers and that base premise is still there. Obviously I don't use OR "like" FB.
And have you Googled "tophatter reviews" or "tophatter complaints"? You may want to do that before you give them all your personal details and Facebook info, contacts, etc., not to mention access to your Paypal account.
Google is your friend, most of the time. Don't be afraid to use it.

When you click the "reply" button, you get the response box.Hi, I have several thrift store Coaches that I'd like to verify. Could someone run through, with really simple instructions, how to post pictures here? I know how to link to an Ebay listing. However, I have bags in my possession that I would love to run past the TPF experts. Thanks
W
Only the middle one has a picture of the creed. It looks authentic but I don't know what it is. The first one is probably a dinky bag. The last one looks like a Lightweights small swinger. I don't know if either of these is authentic without seeing the creed.A couple of my ebay purses. The third is a practice bag ad the others, are good practice and cute. I probably should of gotten them authenticated first! I have yet to receive the first one, so I can't give any details! Sorry. If you need anything from the others plmk! Thank you!!

Yay, Hyacinth, I though I was the only one who didn't like or "get" FB. The whole idea of providing the blow by blow minutae of your daily life stumps me. I remember how I laughed in the movie Arthur when Dudlley Moore says "I'm going to have a bath" and John Gielgud says "I'll alert the press". To me that is Twitter and FB in a nutshell.I can't speak for reliability since the site FORCES you to sign up just to see their listings, and seems to force you to link it to your Facebook account. Five minutes ago I saw this "thing" while browsing saddle bags - it came up with the same number in search. I felt so sorry for the new ebayer who bought it - apparently, as buy it now, paying twice the starting price, probably rushing to snatch the "great" deal while it was still there!Sorry for the late response. I've found that in my experience that it isn't always a good idea to contact the sellers. Most of the time they ignore you and sometimes they get nasty. On ebay, you could be reported for harassing the sellers. Yes, it is really wrong. At least ebay has a report button. The other thing you can do that seems to be very effective is post the listing in our own Hall of Shame: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-sh...-coach-fakes-here-824098-53.html#post26063323
That way, other tpf members will report the fake as well.
As far as that bag, the pictures are too small to authenticate and I would still need a picture of the creed, but it looks like a style that would have been made in the early 90s so it would have a unique serial number.
seller dody0011 - You can report the completed listing. If there are enough reports, ebay might pull the listing and hopefully, it might be before the buyer pays for it.Five minutes ago I saw this "thing" while browsing saddle bags - it came up with the same number in search. Since it's a past transaction, should something be done about this listing? Since the buyer's identity is hidden, there no way to let them know - and I have a feeling that asking the seller to do the right thing and issue a refund won't do much... >I checked, and the seller isn't currently selling any other "coaches", but somehow I have a feeling they knew exactly what they were selling... take a closer look: "The variations in the CHAIR are characteristics of natural full grain leather". CHAIR!
It looks fine.Item: authentic coach wristlet wallet blue white signature zip around
