Gosh, it was really difficult to get a photo of the serial number, because of the small space, but I think I captured the last four digits and it definitely looks like a 5 to me. What could that mean? Did Coach ever change the last digit based on color?

I've also attached the creed for good measure.
That looks like a 5 to me too. Coach never changed the digit based on the color. I don't even know of a style #9985. The creed looks authentic for the year and plant code. I think it must really be a 3 and there is something, like a crack, that is making it look like a 5. I'd like to get Hyacinth's opinion.

Thanks again, Hyacinth and Whateve for your help. Decided not to bid on the green Regina bag as there were too many question marks. But I'll post pics of my red Regina just to make sure she is authentic, too!

The serial number is F6D-9985 as far as I can tell. (It was too hard to take a photo of the number.) Regarding the strap, I found out that it was missing the strap altogether when my mother purchased it new from Marshall's in the mid-late 90's. I guess someone could have taken it? Anyway she got a replacement strap from Coach, thus the flat-with-buckle style.

This is my first time attaching photos so I hope this works. The color of the bag in the first photo isn't as accurate as the inside flap and back views.

Thank you!

It looks fine. I can't tell for sure without a picture of the creed. The last four digits should be 9983, not 9985.

I'm not sure whether this helps prove or disprove anything; just throwing it out there.

This listing has a horrible and illegible creed picture but the seller described the bag is 9985. It's not the same as the red one posted here:

That one should be 9965. The seller is just reading it wrong.

Thanks. I noticed that one but since I own that bag, I remembered the number.

I love that I'm hard-pressed to find fakes on Bonz. They're removed nearly as quickly as they're reported!

But sometimes, a listing needs to be confirmed as fake as I don't want to report anything that might be genuine.

This listing has the infamous J8Y prefix:

Authentic Vintage Coach Black Leather Station Bag 5130
Bonz item: 140634339
Seller: fdfriedrich
http://www.bonanza.com/listings/Authentic-Vintage-Coach-Black-Leather-Station-Bag-5130/140634339

TIA!

That's a tough one, especially with only 2 pictures. But the leather turnlock tab especially the top, the rounded area, looks slightly mis-shaped, and th turnlock itself is a bit too far down the front of the bag. The strap's not original though.

I've found a few seemingly good bags with that prefix but they may just be very close fakes. I've never seen or saved a photo of one with any additional proof in the photo itself that the bag might be genuine, so it's still a "questionable" for me at least. I know I would NOT bid on that one but is that enough to report the bag?

Coach's 5130 pics are below.

Thanks Hyacinth.

No, I don't think it's enough to report either. I only report 100% certain fakes. Hopefully, a potential buyer might check here first before purchasing.

Thank you all for the help with the REGINA .. Its not a big deal, but if I can sell her cheap..I'm happy!
I hated the idea that I spent sooo much time cleaning her, only to have to trash her...Now..I'll go back to my pile of bags that need to be conditioned!! OOOH, I'm AWASH in COACH bags...

It's definitely a 5 on the end. But maybe the mistake in the style number was why it was sent to the outlet. We've seen that happen often with older bags that had stamping mistakes. There aren't any other problems so I'm sure it's genuine.

Interestingly enough, of the 4 "Coaches" in Ebay's Current listings with that prefix, two are obvious fakes with Signature fabric
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251430201596
and
http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-Signa...910?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item3389fe8cee
one is a Beekman Brief that we've seen a lot of fake and questionable examples of recently (and we may have even looked at this one already), and the fourth has an incorrectly-copied serial number in the listing. The creed stamping on the Beekman looks fuzzy and the more I look at it the more I question it.

ETA - checking J8y_ in Completeds:

One Chelsea style 6003, the lining on other Chelseas from the same time period used the Lozenge fabric. This one is plain. The magnetic snap isn;t completely readable but doesn't "feel" right.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-Coa...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

-9966 Legacy Zip with what look like silver strap grommets and brass buckles
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-COA...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

and the Sig fabric fake was sold at least once before and re-listed multiple times. This one REALLY needs to be reported:

Thanks Hyacinth, whateve and BeenBurned. You all are amazing!

Maybe that answers why there was no strap when it was purchased too. The only other thing that I thought was suspicious is that the leather on the sides has that "elephant skin" look, but I chalked it up to dryness, as the bag was sitting in a closet in humid, musty Florida for 15 years. I'll be posting a question or two about that over in the Rehab thread ;-)

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help me with an Ebay listing?

The bag is a Regina. The creed number is J6C-9983. I emailed the seller for a better photo of the creed, but I don't know how to attach it to this message. This is the ebay listing:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=171220862198&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

Thank you!!

You would need to save the photo to a location or file on your computer, and then use the Manage Attachments and Browse links to upload it to your post. Check the FAQs link near the bottom of each page and look for Forum Usage - Attachments and Images.
http://forum.purseblog.com/faq.php?faq=vb3_reading_posting#faq_vb3_attachments

The bag seems ok but as we've discussed a lot over the last few days, the strap might not be originally from Coach. And a better picture of the creed would be a help if you can post that photo.
