I am looking for a mini coach bag. I love the mini pleated top handles in patent (all colors) I have seen this style bag on Ebay many times and it never has the leather patch/identifier inside. The first is new but the second shown below is pre-owned(ish) tags removed. How can one identify a real vs fake if there is no "new" tag on it and for that matter, even if there is?

Style: Mini Pleated Top handle

Both listings look fine.

Existence or lack of a tag can't prove authenticity because even if there is an authentic tag, dishonest sellers have been known to attach genuine props to fake items to "prove" authenticity of a fake.

It's the details of the bag itself - construction, stitching, hardware, lining, markings, creed (if style has one), etc. that prove or disprove authenticity and even without a creed, it's usually possible to authenticate it.

Again, both the pouches you've asked about look fine. I'm not sure of the second, but the "Z" in front of the style number in the first listing indicates that it's a style that Coach made for discounters such as Nordstroms Rack, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, etc.

That serial prefix is often impossible to prove either real or fake and like other J**- codes it's just best to avoid them. I can't find any PROVEABLY genuine bags with that prefix so there's nothing to compare the creed or serial number to.

It's not worth taking a chance with those serial numbers.

ETA - the only thing close to "proof" that the Ridgefield Flap is fake is that the style wasn't introduced until Fall 1999.
Regarding the date that the style was introduced - that's good enough proof for me!
I just needed something solid to give the seller as a reason for my doubts about authenticity.
Thanks for your thoroughness!

So, you are saying that there are some styles, such as this one that do not have the inside leather patch/creed? Is there a list anywhere of the styles without that patch?

Smaller bags usually don't have a patch. Coach isn't really consistent on this. Sometimes they will have a creed but no serial number on the creed. You can sort of tell from the style number. Style numbers that start with 4 are usually smaller bags.

Hi, all. This isn't a bag but can someone look at this item and tell me what they think?Says Bonnie Cashin for Sill's which I presume is a specialty shop of some kind. There are none of the tell tale design details eg. turnlock closures. Thanks.

Bonnie Cashin designed for other companies both before and after she worked for Coach. I believe Sills refers to Phillip Sills, whom she worked for in the 50's. http://www.nytimes.com/1988/07/18/obituaries/philip-sills-68-maker-of-women-s-clothing.html
I don't know enough about her clothing items to authenticate but I have no reason to believe it isn't authentic.

Hi Ladies,

I agree with Whateve that there's nothing that indicates it's not authentic.

But there's also nothing that indicates that it's "Coach." The label on the coat simply says it's a "Bonnie Cashin design." But it doesn't seem to be a coat she designed for Coach or while working for them.

I think it's KWS but probably not (in this case) intentional.

Without seeing the whole bag and the creed, it's not possible to authenticate the bag but the tag appears to be legit. It's priced in Singapore currency and probably originally came from a store in that country.

Keep in mind that Coach sells its products around the world and labeling would be in the language spoken by the country.

more over, i feel that the SGD 1945 is like being held together to the other part of the price tag by pasting that sticker over it. (not sure if you get what i mean.)

Unlike you, I've never seen a tag from a Singapore store so I have no idea what they look like, but the font, format and tag itself don't look off to me.

The price portion is always perforated and they often start to separate and even lose the price part. In this case, it looks like the bag (tag) had a clearance price sticker placed over the perforated part of the tag, perhaps purposely located to hold the tag together or coincidentally placed there, preventing full separation.

If there's a link to where the bag is posted, please copy and paste the URL.
