I thought it was suspicious. I'll stick to the sellers that sell one or two. Now need to find the thread as to why conditioning isn't well thought of. Never have cleaned or conditioned any of my bags but recently have found some roughed up ones that need some TLC.

Thanks BB!

Thank you Hyacinth as well for responding.

Thanks hazelgreen, I will check out apple care conditioner and look for your post regarding how you liked it. Good luck at goodwill, it will happen!

You're welcome.

Fake. The creed stamp font is wrong, the serial prefix has the codes not only scrambled but there should be TWO letter codes with the number code between them, and the font of the serial number digits is also wrong. The inside pocket doesn't seem right either.
Thanks Hyacinth- I was afraid of that.
Unfortunately I bought it quite a while ago on ebay so I can't return it,
don't even remember who I bought it from.
It looked good to me when I got it and that was before I started getting
better educated.
Oh, well, it will hit the pile of fakes I am collecting - quite a few since I hooked up with this
site so I am so grateful to all of you.
Keep up the great work!:woohoo::woohoo:

The first one, the olive, has had at least the strap clips replaced with the same kind of D-rings used on a Willis Bag. I've never seen those used on the Twin Clutch. Her description also says that "The strap is original and not adjustable but removable HEAVY LOBSTER CLAW CLASP drop is: 22" which is incorrect - maybe the seller re-used part of the template for a similar bag but she should have checked it before finalizing the listing.

The second bag (tan) ALSO seems to have had the strap changed. Wrong kind of clips, and too short according to the measurements. The bag came with a 36-inch strap, about a 17 or 18 inch drop, but they offered a longer 44-inch one as an extra-cost option. Neither strap is described accurately, and AFAIK Coach never used a double strap on that style.

I'm pretty sure Coach called the original type of clip a trigger snap. Below is a picture of the optional strap from the 1983 catalog, and a picture of the Twin Clutch from the 1986 catalog. It's hard to see the trigger snaps but if you look carefully you can. I'm not sure why the seller didn't disclose that neither strap assembly was original, she has enough experience to know what the original strap looked like.
WOW, I thought that the tan bag was original at least.
I will be sure to let the seller know, she does sell huge amount of
vintage Coach bags so she should have known and or disclosed.
These actually went unsold on first listing at $55 starting price and I was
really surprised, but I guess other people knew they were not quite right!
Thanks for allowing me to pick your brain!

Sorry, what is "AFAIK Coach"??

Also appreciate your help with this - is the K4P prefix OK? Thank you.

The K4P- prefix normally would be a problem since Coach didn't make that style in 1994. But apparently the Costa Rica plant (which was already scheduled to close permanently in 2004) was never issued a new stamp that could handle double-digit year codes and had to make do with the old one. There are quite a few genuine classic leather bags from that plant that were actually made in 2004 but are still stamped with a 1994 year code. Many of them ended up at the Outlets.

The bag seems ok but anyone buying it for resale needs to consider that the apparently invalid year code could make someone who didn't know about that production problem think it was fake.

Although I don't use conditioner and can't comment on whether or how well it works, I sure wouldn't buy from either of the above sellers. I don't think you're overthinking at all.

Coach conditioner contains silicone and that can deteriorate the bag's stitching over time.

There are probably hundreds of posts in the main Coach forum on conditioners. The two favorite all-purpose brands seem to be Lexol Conditioner (which I personally like to use with classic and vintage glove-tanned leathers) and Apple, which seems to be a bit better on the newer and more delicate leathers. Search the forums for either name and you'll find enough to keep you reading for a week. :smile1:

The Rescue and Rehab thread also mentions quite a few specialized conditioners that members use on bags with problems that need a deeper or richer conditioner to bring them back to health.

Sorry, I can't find anything like it with a double strap and clips. Could the strap mountings have been changed? The clips don't look quite like Coach dogleash clips either.

Yikes...I've just gone through my collection comparing dogleash clips...the ones on this bag are indeed different and downright tiny compared to the others. There is no evidence inside the bag that the strap mountings have been changed...the mounting is very similar to the ones on a Convertible Clutch, but the brass rings are smaller (the whole bag is smaller) and more vertical. I'm really bummed about this one...but always thankful for your time and expertise!

Hi! I'm new, and I have GOT to say I love your avatar Hyacinth!!! My husband and I used to watch that show all the time, he laughed so hard once over the orange cones in the street for the couch that he passed out!! Anyway, glad to find this site and glad you help out newbies doing this!
Thanks!

Hey, it may still be genuine, I don't have anything close to a full set of catalogs. And earlier Coaches had a slightly different dogleash clip, or maybe the strap has been replaced.

The stitching did look slightly different but maybe the small size of the bag made it look larger. How do the stitches compare with your other Compact Pouches?
