Well I am naughty and submitted a best offer for these hang tags before authenticating. I really only care about the leather ones because I won't use the metal one.

Item: hangtags
Seller: rsf.altarais
Item #: 261280747457
Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/261280747457?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Thank you!

Unless they have some obvious mistakes, hangtags on their own are almost impossible to authenticate. Over the years Coach has changed details on them dozens of times. I don't see any major red flags but that doesn't prove anything.

But the seller has a mixed lot of Coaches and other brands that the seller may have taken the hangtags from. The tan bag that may have been the source of the tan hangtag has a questionable font in the serial number and there's a detail on the tag itself that bothers me.

ETA - The more I look at that tan hangtag, the more it worries me. Does anyone else have any absolutely proveably genuine bags from the mid-90s that they bought new and know the hangtag has never been removed where the tag has so many borders around the Coach logo?

On style 46606, the horse and carriage is supposed to be facing this way. Here is a listing with Coach's pictures of it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-Madis...T-/200958268924?pt=Wallet&hash=item2eca0bd5fc
Although, this isn't the same style, it is possible they made one like this.

There is another style, 43211, in which the horse and carriage is the other direction, proving Coach isn't consistent.

That one on ebay looks exactly the same to me as the one I posted (except the colour of course) - is it not?

No, it is almost the same, but on the one on ebay, the part around the logo is curved and on the one you posted it comes to a point. I think the curved one is newer.

I think that's how that style is supposed to be. There's another one listed here but the seller doesn't list the style number:

I wish the Carriage emblem on the purple one was clearer. Not sure if it's the lighting but the second horse is almost invisible, and the emblems don't seem to be mounted to the leather at the same depth when you compare the purple and black ones.

EDITED TO ADD - I just saw post 5005 and they look like the same style to me too, along with the one I mentioned in this post.

ah, yes, i see now. thanks ladies.

Whateve is correct. The listing Hyacinth pointed out and the listing aphaea posted is rounded and the purple one is pointed.

This might help show the difference between them:

I wasn't going to comment on the hangtags until Hyacinth pointed out the questionable items.

As a matter of fact, the sale of hangtags as well as boxes, tissue, tags, ribbon, shopping bags, etc. are disallowed per ebay's "prohibited accessories" policy. If an item isn't sold as a free-standing item but is only included with the purchase of a bag, wallet, etc., it's not allowed to be sold. The reason for this is that sellers of fakes often use authentic props to "prove" authenticity of their fakes. So any of these items are only supposed to be sold with the items they came with.

Here's the policy: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/prohibited-accessories.html

Thank you, ladies! And thank you to whoever reported the listing if it was someone here! My offer had been accepted before I went to bed last night. I went on ebay this morning and it said the listing had been removed and I no longer had to pay for the item. Safe to say I won't pull that stunt again before authenticating!! :lecture:

You can always contact Coach for a replacement hang tag as well.
