Hello Ladies,

I am thinking of bidding on this bag but not quite sure of its authenticity.

Item: Ashley Gathered Leather Satchel
Item No: 171108980387
Seller: us0712
Link: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/171108980387?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Comment: I notice that strap that converts it to a shoulder bag is missing from photo and their is no photo of the Coach creed but I have asked for her to put up a photo of the creed and also photos of the back, bottom, internal and side photos of the bag.
She said that she would put it up as soon as she gets home from work.

Could someone please look over this auction?

Item: Vintage Coach crossbody leather shoulder bag
Listing number: 321190711297
Seller: sjoh2808
Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Coa...297?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item4ac8755001
Comments: I thought that the 7 digit serial numbers were either supposed to be all numbers or letter/number/letter - style number.

Because I'm looking for a bag this style, for my general reference, when did Coach start making their court bags?

Thanks in advance!

No, your information is wrong. The first half of 1994-and-later serial numbers sometimes had the digits scrambled, and some plants like Turkey and many of the China plants used numbers instead of letters as plant codes. The Court Bag in the listing is genuine, and Coach started making Court Bags in 1989.

Let us know when the additional photos are up.

Eh unfortunately I bid on this bag before finding one at an outlet that I have on hold. There's still two days left though so I might not end up the highest bidder, I've never purchased a bag from ebay yet so I get a little nervous. Just want to make sure it's authentic.

Spiffy. Thank you for setting me straight on that. I went back and reread the ebay guide you wrote on creeds and serials numbers and realized I completely missed that. Just so I get it straight, the post-1994, pre-2004 serial numbers (speaking about the 7 digit ones for simplicity) with the third digit being a number indicates a bag made abroad and not the US? Did the letter/number/letter and the letter/number/number serial numbers occur simultaneously or did one get phased in while the other was phased out? Sorry for the additional questions. Thanks again for your help!

The first three are authentic. The first one is not really rare or vintage, it just looks old. The seller is a member of tpf. The last one is a horrible fake. It was made in Korea. Report away!

The last digit before the dash is the plant code. Starting in 1994, these were letters, but when Coach ran out of letters, they started using numbers, first single digits, but then later and currently, 2 digits. During the same years of production, you can find both letter and number creeds. The earliest number creeds were 2 for Turkey and 3 for China. Just to clarify, a letter plant code doesn't mean a bag was made in the US. There are many letter plant codes for other countries.
