1- looks ok

2- worries me, the strap grommets at least on the handles look silver, and that J8D- prefix has shown up in some fakes. I've posted pics of 3 other *8D- creeds so you can also see that the fonts are different from your bag. I can't say it enough, creeds from the mid to late 1990s that start with "J" have 20-40 percent chance of being fake or at least impossible for me to authenticate with any certainty.

The previous owner added extra holes in the shoulder strap but at least they didn't cut it. Let us know about the handle grommet colors when you get the bag.

3- I think it's a genuine Bucket Bag from the Lightweight Collection, late 1980s, style 4075

4- seems ok
Thanks so much. I didn't even notice that the grommets look nickel. I could kick myself. I printed off the serial numbers for fakes so I can weed out the questionable ones but obviously I gapped out on that one. I'll let you know how it turns out. If it is fake, it's a lesson learned anyway. Would I get a refund?

That depends on what you and the seller work out. If it has silver grommets that might be enough to convince Ebay or Paypal that it's not genuine.

As for the J-codes, I don't think my own list has been updated to add comments about those, but Daria48's list at Ebay mentions them:

"J8H-, J8Y- and M4B- prefixes are used in genuine bags but can be possible counterfeits especially if the font of the digits of the serial number seems slightly different. Please have them looked at by an expert - NOT a Coach store employee, many of whom may be Coach lovers but who have no training in recognising fakes, especially older ones. Fakes with these prefixes are usually pretty accurate, and care must be used especially with the J8*- prefix which seems to be a favorite with counterfeiters.

J8Y-4161 is just one of the J8Y- prefix and style number combinations that has been found in several fakes that are NOT #4161 Soho Zip Hobos. EXTREME care must be used with any bags with that number, along with ALL J8Y-, J8H-, and M4B- serial number prefixes. Other prefixes often found in fake as well as real serial numbers:

J4D-

J6D-

J8D-

J9H-

In fact there are a lot of questionable bags from the middle and late 1990s starting with the month code "J". It seems to be a spsecial favorite with counterfeiters but it also was used in authentic bags. Have these authenticated if possible."

The zipper pull and leather pull tab aren't right (and what color is the zipper pull, brass or silver?), the Coach logo on the creed is an older style that had just been replaced by the one with thinner lettering, and after looking at the creeds of almost a dozen other bags from the same plant, month and year none of the other creeds have the same font in either the serial number or the creed itself. The letters and numbers in yours are much wider than all the others.

The turnlock also looks crooked in your photo and looks a little lopsided in the seller's, with the pocket flap being shorter on the left side than the right although that may just be the camera angle. None of these are solid proof that it's fake but the creed and serial fonts raise serious questions. I've posted one of the "regular" H5D- creeds below for comparison.

@robin0714 could you post a photo of the stitching around the end of the zippers? That stitching should be rounded on an authentic bag, in many counterfeits we have seen that stitching is squared off. That combined with the issues that Hyacinth has identified (esp. the zipper pull and leather tab on the zipper) would suggest that the bag is not authentic.

Good morning lovely authenticators! I have a couple of bargains that I need a double check on, just to be 100% sure. First up, a crusty suede tote that I never would have picked up if it weren't for ledobe's inspiring suede bag rehab:

Thanks ladies!
