Thankyou Whateve! On with the rehab for me! I thought the creed looked so weird with the impressions around it. Do you have any ideas what would cause that? Could it be a factory flaw? Am I correct in dating this bag to 1999?
You're welcome! I figured those impressions were caused by the user after purchase. It sort of looks like a binder clip. Yes, 1999.

Also, is that your African Spur Thigh tortie? Gorgeous tortoise.
He's an African Sulcata. Thanks. I think he's gorgeous too!

Coach Legacy Embossed Alligator School Bag / Briefcase

Rivets all over the strap and top handle ends - real Coaches use stitches to secure strap ends and handles, not rivets. Some newer bags use rivets on the strap and top handle but they're more for decoration, the strap ends and handle mountings are sewn well enough that rivets aren't needed. These strap ends and handle mounts don't even look like they have ANY stitching, they're JUST riveted.

Thin cheap strap with clips that are thinner and flimsier than anything I've seen on any Coach handbags or business bags, NO visible serial number on the creed.

Looking at her other listings - her Legacy Tote style 10650 doesn't look anything like the one from the drilldown, see below. Totally different front pocket(s), AND she's showing photos of two different interiors - compare the stripe pattern. And all the other Legacy Gigi Totes in Completed show a single front pocket and no front zipped pocket.

Interesting how, except for the clear photo of the #10650 creed which may or may NOT be from the bag she's actually selling - my bet is that it's NOT - none of the photos show clear pics of the creeds. They don't even list style numbers. Since when does a Coach "designer" not know the importance of creeds? And since when does Coach call a dustbag a "duster bag cover"? Or not understand the importance of large CLEAR photos, instead of pics from a friggin' cell phone?

And I don't have any experience with exotic leathers but if you were buying an Alligator Satchel - or even an expensive Embossed bag made to look like alligator, wouldn't you expect ot to have metal feet on the bottom?

If that's supposed to be a slip pocket on the side, it looks really cheap - no buckle or turnlock? How often have you seen a side pocket like that? Would you carry anything valuable like an iPhone in a pocket like that?

There are way too many red flags with all of these. I wouldn't trust " fashionforwardfashions " as far as I could throw her.

I have one bag that says "solid brass" and it is pre-creed, meaning that it just has the word Coach imprinted and nothing else. The buckles are extremely heavy so you can tell they really are solid brass. The bags that I have that are a little newer, made in the mid to late 70's, have much smaller buckles. They could be solid brass but it would be difficult to imprint anything on them because they are so small. I've never seen a bag with a serial number with "solid brass" stamped on the buckles. If the buckles on your bag were solid brass, you would know because they would be very heavy.

Yes, the "worth bag" is the gray blue one, style #4143 - it's a Soho Worth Bag. The first digit of the creed is the month code. Normally, the letter "I" wasn't used because it could be confused with the number 1, but sometimes plants made mistakes. I found several similar bags that had the same mistake, and all other details of the bag look good, so I'm confident it is authentic.

The buckles are quite heavy and they have verdigris. Does brass plate get verdigris? I did look up some other bags of this style and I see the zipper pull is supposed to be larger and none of them show any photos of the words solid brass

Plated brass can get verdigris just like silverplate can get tarnished.

Someone bought the one I asked about... and it wasn't me.

The Legacy Leather Tote in her listing actually looks like style 11131. So did she deliberately photograph a different style bag's creed? Another reason to avoid fashionforwardfashions

Here's the11131 Gigi Tote:

It is extremely unlikely that Coach used solid brass on your bag and not on any other bags that we know of from the same era, including other bags of the same style. If, for some reason, the counterfeiters decided to use solid brass, that still wouldn't make your bag authentic.

Hi I'm new.

I am thinking about buying a secondhand/vintage coach bag and so far have found this forum very helpful.

I would appreciate some thoughts on this bag. Coach bags are not very common in my part of Australia. It's hard to get a really feel for things from pictures.

Item: Vintage Coach Black Color Leather Purse Cross Body Shoulder Bag / Coach 9087

Thank-you in advance :smile1:
