Almost every Sonoma style has a Natural Grain (soft pebbled smooth leather if that doesn't sound like a contradiction) and a Nubuc version. Most are numbered between 4900 and 4959, all the numbers from 4900 to 4929 are Natural Grain and the higher numbers are Nubuc. Style 4949 in Nubuc is the same style as the Pocket Zip 4924 in Natural Grain, like this one (the bag in the listing isn't pinkish at all, more like a sand or camel color).

Sonomas HAVE been faked, so always ask for authentication. Beware of the infamous fake number NT-4903 which will never be a real Sonoma Flap. There's a great guide to Sonomas from a very experienced (former, I think) Ebayer, GigiTrading, here:

Got it! And I am loving the purple even more now that I know it's called Grape. :smile1:
Thanks Hyacinth (bid on the Berkley BTW, cross your fingers for me)!

Both are authentic.

Don't laugh, but this will only be the second time I ever BOUGHT anything on the bay (I usually only sell). Is sniping some sort of automated bidding?
My ebay naivete is showing!
Sniping is when you bid within the last few seconds. Some bidders like to do it manually, watching the listing and placing their bid. Others use a sniping service, a method that involves telling them your password and your high bid and they automatically place the bid at the very end of the listing.

Those who like sniping services like it because they (the bidder) don't have to keep watching and being online. And for listings that end in the middle of the night or other inconvenient times, it saves the buyer from having to set an alarm to place a bid.

As BeenBurned said, there are sniping services available. You have to give them your valid Ebay ID and password, and they enter a bid automatically for you 6 seconds before the end of the auction. The important thing is to enter the absolute maximum bid you're willing to pay, and at least if you're still outbid you know that you didn't pay more than you thought the item was actually worth to you.

You can still be outbid, or if someone's next closest bid is less than Ebay's minimum bid increment, that other bid will win. So if your bid is 50 dollars and someone else bids 49.50 and Ebay's bid increment at that level is one dollar, the other bidder will still win because yours was less than 1 dollar more. So it's just like any other auction bid but you don't have to be sitting by your computer trying to time that last bid perfectly.

I like ESnipe, and have used them for years. When you register, the first ten (I think!) bids are free, after that you have to add money to your account to buy Bid Points.

http://esnipe.com/faq

eSnipe is free to new users for limited time. After the trial period, eSnipe only charges if you win an auction, even if you lost because your bid was too low. When you do win the cost is 25 cents for items up to US$24.99, 1% of the winning amount for items up to US$1,000 (rounded down to the nearest penny), and a maximum of $10 thereafter. So if you win an item for $47, the fee is 47 cents. If you win an item for $230.58, the fee is $2.30. eSnipe fees are in BidPoints, which you can buy in quantity for discounts.

A lot of people really enjoy the challenge of manually bidding at the last second. I'm too lazy to watch the clock especially when I know that someone can still snipe me in the last few seconds no matter how fast on the keyboard I am. For me, laziness will always take precedence over a challenge. :D

BTW, one really nice thing about sniping services is that unlike bidding directly on Ebay, you can still cancel or edit a bid right up to 5 minutes before the end of the auction. So if you change your mind or find something better you don't have to beg a seller to cancel your bid at the last minute. You do need to follow the auction because if someone else enters a higher bid than your maximum, ESnipe won't raise your bid, you'll have to do that yourself. Your ESnipe bid will just be cancelled.

Hi, I hope it is OK to list items that ended. I won the bid and am new to purchasing vintage Coach.

Item: COACH Legacy Trail
Listing Number: 360680254155
Seller: ctcsports
Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-COA...dOh0eN771llr8iOdksAjY%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

Thanks in advance!

That seller ctcsports just listed a fake that was reported here yesterday:

We usually recommend avoiding sellers who aren't careful enough to have their items authenticated. And the bag you asked about has a plant code that we haven't been able to verify as being used in 1995 in bags made in the US. So not only is a NOT a Trail Bag but there's a chance it may not be genuine. I've seen that exact plant and year code in a proveably fake style 9965, the same style as in your post, and I don't trust that serial number at all.

Here's the fake 9965 - same exact serial number and creed format INCLUDING the "puffiness" that should never be on a US-made creed stamp - BOTH WERE STAMPED WITH EXACTLY THE SAME CREED AND SERIAL NUMBER STAMP. Same wavy zipper, and in a color that Coach absolutely did NOT make in 1995. Also notice the really sloppy stitching on the base of the pink one - if we could see the base of the black one it would probably look the same.

I believe the one you bid on is just as fake as the pink one, sorry. Now that you're a member here and know where to find us, I really hope you'll ask about Coaches you're interested in BEFORE you bid. You need to ask the seller for a mutual cancellation, unless some of our posters here have a better suggestion. OR IF YOU HAVEN'T PAID YET, DON'T !!!!

(Edited To Add - I'm adding a photo of the creed stamp of the one you bid on for comparison)

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't paid yet, I figure I'll wait until its authenticated before I pay. The seller does have another Coach item for sale, I'm not sure if that item is real or not. I'll ask the seller for a cancellation.
