As for the hangtags, she either takes them off bags after she buys them - or some sellers do it right in the store WITHOUT buying the bag - or she cons Coach out of free keychains and sells them, and before long Coach will stop giving them away to people who really need them.

I avoid sellers like that on principle, and the fake listed above isn't in the seller's favor either.

Hello!
Could you please tell me if this bag is ok. Also what is the name and year?

Thanks once again for your help!
Kim

Sorry, I can't find a bag that matches the seller's measurements. The only similar one is described by Coach as almost 3 inches shorter, 3 inches narrower and with a 4-inch shorter strap. This one may be genuine but I can't give you a name. I'm including a photo just in case...

Coach made quite a few bags in both PVC and coated canvas (the same type of material used in many Louis Vuittons, BTW) that were mostly sold at the outlets. This might be one of them but I can't find any other pics of that style to confirm it.

Well, so far no reply from seller to my requests for photos of creed plate or serial number...I stopped bidding to be on safe side. Thank you so much for looking to see if you could find other pics of that style. This forum is just amazing - extremely helpful and I am already learning so much!

EDITED TO ADD - If this is the wallet, it seems ok although there's one tiny thing that worries me. I wish the seller had shown the cards that are in the slots.

I requested a image of the Coach cards that are in the credit card slots.. to be uploaded as soon as humanly possible. :) thanks Hyacinth

I got a second opinion on the wallet and it's probably fake - the card with the number has so far only shown up on fakes-selling sites, and the same for the box. Looks like the listing is already gone.

here one more for you to check if you wouldn't mind.

Possibly Cashin-era but more likely from just a few years later. Maybe DemRam can narrow it down a bit further, early Coaches are almost impossible to pin down to an exact year.

Thank you, Hyacinth. So just to clarify, I see from the salarea ebay guide (http://reviews.ebay.com/Coach-Serial-Numbers-the-Basic-Facts?ugid=10000000034886433) that the Coach creed came into use in the mid to late 70s. According to a Wall Street Journal online article (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304373804577521103724158314.html#slide/1) the Crescent Bag was released in 1964. I believe I read somewhere that Bonnie Cashin left Coach in 1972, so if that's all correct are you then saying my bag was probably made in the early to mid 1970s?

I bought this bag on ebay a few years ago after my research indicated that the lack of creed and serial number only confirmed it was a 1960s Bonnie Cashin era bag. Was I right? I measure the dimensions at 10" wide, 11" deep (to bottom of buckle), 3" thick. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I am not speaking for Hyacinth!

Cashin was "sole designer at Coach from 1962 - 1974" according to the Cashin foundation.

Unfortunately, according to the Cashin Foundation, Coach used and adapted many of her designs AFTER she left.

Also unfortunately, we don't know all the various "marks" they were using during any of that time period.

A bag could be designed by Cashin, but not made during her time at Coach.

I have one bag with that "mark" that was deemed to be NOT a Cashin design and NOT made during her time at Coach.

It's all a big mystery!

ETA: I do recall that one of our "sorely missed posters" (Denim) DID have a bag with the same mark authenticated as a Cashin design.

That would be my guess, but DemRam is more familiar with Cashin-era styles than I am. The bag was possibly her design, but "Cashin-era" is usually defined as the period during which she actually designed for Coach. Most of the true Cashin-era items I've seen have had one of her labels or special linings but there probably were some that didn't. Again, it's not a period that I've studied. And even the addition of the Coach creed may have come a bit later than my guesstimate, or been spread over a longer period of time. Those earlier days don't have any dependable public documentation, other than maybe the Cashin Foundation.

ETA - What DemRam said. :smile1:
