the tabs are a bit thinner, the 'brass' not brass, the shape is maybe 90% right, but not 100% spot on. i was tempted to keep it but a) i knew i could never sell it; and b) the fact that it wasn't 'authentic' just bothered me no end, even though it was remarkably well made -- thick leather, etc. the person from whom i bought it was quite gracious and took it back immediately. i was just stunned, though, since i think i have seen dozens of these bags, and have never seen a fake one before. i guess no bag is immune.
That is true. We have to keep reminding ourselves of this.

Another thing that strikes me as odd is the creed stamping itself. It looks like the word "Leatherware" is stamped under the Coach logo (or should be, since there's a space for it) but has almost worn away, but in the photo it doesn't look as if there's any unusual wear showing on the rest of the creed or around it. It's hard to be sure with one photo but odd or improbable wear patterns can be another red flag. It's not proof on its own but it's unusual enough to mean that the bag needs to be looked at very carefully.

My bean bag creed has the space for the word "Leatherware" too. It almost looks like there was something there but it isn't readable.

Found this at Goodwill for $4.99
Google told me that it's Hampton Scribble 41187
My concern was that it has no creed or inside pocket.
Other Google images also showed nothing on the inside.

More views. thank you;-))
Nice find. Sometimes it works to your advantage when they don't know the difference between authentic and fake.

Style 41187 sounds right for the style number.

Hello everyone! I picked up this bag today at a new (to me) thrift store in Boston, Urban Renewal, for 5.00 (gotta love 1/2 off colored tag days). Could someone authenticate it, if possible?....and the name? I know it is a Mercer but can't find any other info. Thanks so much!
