Hello!
I need authentication please on a listing for a Coach Penelope handbag. I cannot tell if this is real as there is nothing showing the name Coach. I see a chain for a hangtag, but it's hidden.
Thank you!

Coach Penelope handbag
Ebay listing # 300844429036

Seller: clasichic

There's no way to authenticate that bag based on the pictures in the listing.

In fact, all the seller's listings are lacking in pictures and since ebay gives sellers the ability to post 12 free pictures, there's no excuse for not taking advantage.

Comments: L plant in 1994. I don't think I have seen an L plant either. I'm trying to make sense of the plant codes and the order they were used. I know the first ones used were B, C and D for US plants. Then E was added for Italy. I see a lot of Costa Rica (P) bags starting around 1998, I think. A small number of Mexico, Dominican Republic, Hungary, Turkey, etc. There are some letters I never see. They must have used all of them before they started on the numbers. I think it is odd to see a letter towards the end of the alphabet as early as 1994.

Thank you.

1- The A plant code has shown up very recently on a small number of bags that may be genuine. This one may be ok. A correction to the Salearea Guide is in the works.

2- genuine Legacy West Zoe Hobo

3- the L code is ok for that year. The rest of the bag doesn't seem to have any problems.

I don't have a good feeling about this one. Among other things, the tabs for the shoulder strap aren't centered and there is a weird crooked stitching thing going on inside.

Check the Fake Numbers List - betcha the first 3 digits of this serial number are 308.

Please report the problems and the fake number.

The whole plant code system is something I'll never figure out completely. I've seen a genuine bag from 1996 with an L code. Coach used the M code for Costa Rica as early as 1994 and I've seen a P code from the same year. They also recycled codes from plants that were permanently and even probably just temporarily closed.

Don't ever expect plant codes to make sense.
