If you are a member of Listia, it's probably in your best interest as well as Listia's interest to let them know that they might want to rethink their new policy.

Although their "rules" state that fakes aren't allowed and if authenticity can't be determined, items can't be listed, but the posts they're making on auctions say otherwise.

Listia will be on its way to becoming the new iOffer if they don't reconsider the change they made.

thanks and I am actually scared to buy anything from ioffer after reading reviews...

I'm sorry, but since Listia posted this on their site last week and stated they didn't care whether or not members were selling or trading fakes as long as they said so in the listing, I refuse to authenticate any items being offered on their site. Selling fakes is against US law and Listia's blatant disregard for the law is inexcusable - they can refer their members to tPF until they're blue in the face but I'm not going to lift a finger to cover their laziness, incompetence and disregard for the US legal system AND the moral obligation of a site to offer a safe place to buy and sell:

"Hello everyone,
The authenticity of the item in this auction is no longer be determined by a Listia moderator. It is up to the seller to accurately represent the item and the bidders to research what they’re bidding on. That way, everyone is fully aware of what they’re getting and not getting. Please check out the sources below to help you determine whether you want to participate in this auction or not.

Also, we will no longer make claims of fake or authentic. Sellers should clearly market their items to get the best auction results, and bidders should do their homework first, if they care to. As in most things in life, buyer beware.

Here is a website that may help you in your research, or you may want to contact the manufacturer directly for assistance. This is being provided as a courtesy only and we cannot vouch for the accuracy of the information provided by others.

Thanks and good luck to the seller and bidders alike!

I hope other tPF authenticators will do the same, but that's an individual decision.

Amazon should be ashamed of themselves. Maybe members should start writing to Amazon and to Mr or Ms Gee Chuang and ask why their company feels free to break the law?

The second bag is genuine, just be aware that the wallet wasn't made by Coach.

thanks!

now I understand what all the buzz was about in the questions back and forth with the sellers...and a comment about the moderators no longer checking for fakes...beenburned mentioned ioffer, but I found a lot of fakes on the webstore.com; however, they have a slightly better policy, they have a report listing violation option...what's one to do?!!! #justwanttoshopinpeace...

Top handle purse?
11.5 x 4 x 8 at bottom but it tapers to the top.
I think everything looks OK, but the leather feels different from other older bags I have rehabbed. Here's to hoping its real! Thanks so much for your help!!

See Moderators comment, Listia has changed their wording. This is directed to Hyacinth, who I hope will change her mind about the site and help the potential bidders/ sellers.

So what happens when someone spots a fake item that's listed as genuine? According to the revised statement, the website / Moderators have no responsibility to remove the item, even if someone reports it as counterfeit. Assuming they can even make such a report.

Just saying "fakes aren't allowed" doesn't make the fakes that ARE listed go away. Website Rules are like any other laws, they're no good unless they're enforced. What are Listia's procedures for reporting and removing fake items?

For instance:

Fake Scribble bag, fake style, trim color, wrong color hardware. BAD ripoff of a Scribble Stitch style:

Soho Handle Bag. The leather feels different because
a- it's white, and white dyed leather usually has a different feel than more "natural" colors like black or tan that require less processing
and
b- it's a Soho and the leather is lighter and thinnner than regular Coach glove lethers

For instance:

In additional to the fake scribble from mrswelch, what about this wallet from seller jessicalawson522:
http://www.listia.com/auction/5099788-coach-wallet-my-second-auction

Or these hangtags -
From battybetty:
http://www.listia.com/auction/5104144-brown-coach-luggage-tag

and this one from bebossy32:
http://www.listia.com/auction/5101841-coach-chain

The problem is that some of these items risk being sold to an unsuspecting buyer through a "buy it now" listing and once sold, there's no way to report the listing. The listing remains, sellers get feedback and the buyer doesn't know they got scammed.
