Hi, I was wondering whether this bag is authentic. I was surprised to see an M in the serial number
http://www.etsy.com/listing/98745120/rare-vintage-tan-coach-button-tote-bag
seller: dakota
Item: coach tote

if it is authentic, when does it date, and what is its name? thanks so much
Please wait for opinions on authenticity. IMO, the seller copied the serial number incorrectly. It looks like she might have read "11" as "M"

You might try emailing the seller and requesting a more straight on picture of the creed and verifying the serial number.
Thanks much BeenBurned! :)
You're welcome.

i did email her for more pics, but she said her camera is broken (honest?)
if it is 11 instead of M, would it still be authentic?

Had a question, I purchased a plum Colette tote off ebay, should have had you guys look at it before hand, everything checks out except it has a small black "made in china" tag on one side of the bag? I have never had a coach and looked at my other real coach bags and they do not have this small tag either....is this new?? Just wanted to see, thanks so much. Will be glad to take photos if necessary. Thanks!!!

Hello awesome Coach authenticaters,

I ill-advisedly bought a bag off of etsy without getting it authenticated. Since the listing said "All of our items guaranteed AUTHENTIC" and the seller had 100% positive feedback (although only 9). I was feeling like taking a gamble that day - and looks like I lost. Fortunately I bought it at 50% off original asking price and because she forgot to ship it out until I emailed her 2 weeks later, shipping was free. On the plus side, I tossed it into a wash immediately when I received it (since it was so gross) and it cleaned up well. Still, I'm irritated with myself :)

Reasons why I think the bag is fake:
1. Grommets are cheap compared to an authentic Rambler's Legacy I have.
2. Crazy bad seam on the bag handle.
3. Less than awesome seam at the bottom of the bag.
4. Overall the leather is not supple, it feels cheap to me.

Here is the original listing:
http://www.etsy.com/transaction/76433380

Can anyone comment on the authenticity of this bag so I can leave appropritate feedback for this etsy seller?

Thanks for your help! And to other secondhand buyers - don't do what I did! Authenticate here first :)

So far, there's nothing that raises a red flag since Coach is made in China (and other countries too) but we need to see the bag and lisitng.

Some things to consider:

I've seen several different styles of grommets on older bags both the thicker kind with smooth backs and the "petal" kind composed of individual leaves that fold over. Yours are thinner that most but that doesn't necessarily prove the bag is fake. What I AM concerned with is the color, they look almost silver compared to the rest of the hardware. We've seen some fakes and some bags that can't be authenticated either way including a few with no other flaws that have silver-colored or "worn-away" grommets. Coach hardware should be solid brass, whether or not some plant managers took some shortcuts to save money is always a possibility.

Different leather colors will feel different, white and other heavily dyed colors can have a different feel from blacks, browns, tans, and other colors that don't require as much processing. The white one may have never been conditioned, and after washing will definitely need a few conditioner applications

Straps were often edged with 2 or even more pieces of leather, and stitching on the strap wasn't nearly as precise as on the bag itself.

You can't compare different style bags from different periods. The white one has a 1996 year code L6C-, your Rambler's is at least 2 years newer judging just by the silver hardware and the introduction date of that style. The creed stamping looks ok and that's usually the part where mistakes happen in fakes.

Other opinions are welcome. There's nothing on yours that proves conclusively that it's fake, but without a genuine 9965 from that time and plant to compare it to it's impossible to say either way. If anyone else has a 9965 Legacy Small Flap I hope they'll take a look.

EDITED TO ADD - this listing on Ebay has the same year and plant code but is supposedly one month newer. There are a few differences in the serial number stamping that raise a few more questions:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Coach-Vinta...525?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item27c546f9a5

The size and shape of the "o" in "No" is different - but it could be due to something as simple as a new serial stamping mechanism. The "M" month serial is much clearer and more deeply stamped than the other one.

*Sigh.* Broken camera?

I'm not skilled in vintage/older classic Coach so I'd suggest you wait for DemRam and Hyacinth to comment on the bag's authenticity.
hi, any other thoughts on this bag?

And here's another L6C- with some of the same questions as the white one - questionable, or just mistakes made at the plant?

We remind posters often to never depend on what the seller POSTS as a serial number. The only dependable number is what you can actually see stamped under the creed. I'm seeing ?7?-1109.

Dover Bag style 9900 from the early 1992 Carriage Classics.

Hi, my first post here. Hope I'm doing this right:

Item: Coach Signature Stripe Convertible Tote White/Khaki
Listing number: 71497671
Seller: thewisechoice4u
Link: http://www.bonanza.com/listings/AUT...-STRIPE-PURSE-OR-CROSS-BODY-BAG-F136/71497671
Comments: First time using this website... I'm not sure there are enough photos to tell if this is authentic though. Should I request more photos?

Edit: there is another listing from the same seller for the same item but different color, with a slightly better photo of the creed. Link here.

It looks ok.
