Comments: Does it look like it says completelt to you? And is that a W in the number?

Thanks!

I believe it does say "completelt" and it does look like a W to me too.

It's fake for those reasons, plus the fact that style number 9927 belongs to the Willis.

During my first days of buying Coach on Ebay, I got one almost identical to that, the only difference was that they'd actually used the right style number. It still had "W" as a month code though, which I didn't even know about at the time. Same Periwinkle color, and I'll bet the leather on this one is stiffer than normal Coach leather too.

2- probably fake, but I'd like to see better photos of the strap ends and hardware

3- yep, made in China. The seller needs to learn to read the creed before writing the description

Thanks! I thought the creed looked a bit wonky on the first one. About the last one - what year did Coach start making things in China?

They had at least one pilot plant in China running in 1996-97, and most production changed over in 2000 including all the new Signature items. Most of the classic leather styles were still coming from the US, Turkey, Costa Rica and maybe 1 other plant until around 2003. That bag is from 2005.

(The letter “i” was avoided because it was too easy to confuse it with the number 1.) The second digit, always a number, was the year the bag was made. Since the new formatting began in 1994, “4” was the first year code used, and single digits would continue to be used for a decade - “0” for the year 2000, “3” for 2003, etc. In 2004 a Zero was added to differentiate between 1994 and 2004 and to match the actual year abbreviation, and that continues to the present with the Zero changing to a One in 2010 so that the code for 2010 is “10”. The year code is still the 2 center digits in the first half of the serial number.

The third or last digit was the plant code, originally a letter of the alphabet but with the expansion to Turkey, China and beyond, Coach ran out of letters and began using single numbers. Since the original New York City plant was closed before the new codes began, there should never be any number with an “A” code. “B, C and D” stood for the US plants that took over from the NYC plant..."

A lot of classic leather fakes were surprisingly well made and lasted a reasonably long time. But it looks like whoever owned this gave it to her dog to play with.

Do you think I should report it?

OK! Last attempt to authenticate this beast of a purse - I did post new photos but they were taken last night in tungsten lighting. I hope this will help better. The purse is already in hand, as I purchased it before reading the advice here stating that I should probably pass on it :( I did not pay a lot at ALL. So i'm ok if it's fake, I can give it to my friend's daughter for play.

I just need to figure out what to do with this thing, as I'd love to sell it and use $ towards a new mac if it turns out to be real. OR there is a possibility I might keep it...if I don't feel like all my stuff will just get lost in it's hugeness lol

Can anybody help? Thanks again :) :)

It's "Geometric Bag" from 1998. I'd ask if the white leather has been touched-up in any way, like with shoe polish or dye.

I was so tempted until I decided to examine it one more time. At least on vintage pieces, I think I need to get every one of them authenticated. It is so easy to get fooled.

I don't see any obvious problems but for a highly faked style, I'd feel much more comfortable hearing another opinion. (The listing on Bonz looks fine.)

I forget---- did you buy this from ebay or online? If so, please post a link to the listing.

Sorry, I don't have any photos of that style. I do have some of the Gathered Leather Sophia #15942 from the same plant although almost a year later, and the creed and Carriage logos seem to be a very good match. That's not a solid authentication though.

Unfortunately, the person contacted me through my craig's list ad stating that I am looking to buy Coach bags locally. They said they had one and when they sent the photos I had a mini heart-attack lol. If they had a sale ad up, I am unaware of it. I will look now and get back to you.

I have many coach bags, and have seen many fakes in my time from thrifting. It certainly doesn't raise any red flags for me, but then again, I've never had this particular style either. It's heavy and solid and just looks so perfect. I wish I could see a fake one and get a good comparison. Not sure what to do with this bag until I get this sorted :/

thanks so much for all your help, and Hyacinth too!! Hopefully we can get down to the bottom of this

ps- I found one replica online....ick! I think this one is pretty obviously fake. Perhaps they make better bootlegs though. http://www.vogueitrading.com/img_shopxp/Handbag/11/0420/HA-COA022237.jpg

I brought the bag over to the coach store in the mall nearby here, and a few employees looked it over and all said it was real. They said for the more official autenticity test, I'd have to ship it out to Coach headquarters and yadda yadda and I said fugettaboutit. Has anyone done that before?
Thanks again ladies :)
