Item: COACH Vintage LARGE CLASSIC WILLIS Handbag BLACK Leather GREAT CONDITION 9927

Listing number: 260922291001

Seller: boristhekatbargains

Comments: Is this real? What are your thoughts on the condition? I'm not expecting it to be perfect, am willing to clean it up & condition it!

It seems ok. I just wish the seller had done a better job photographing the creed stamp.

As for condition, I'm not seeing any obvious problems but if there's no condition description in the listing you should always contact the seller and ask, especially about stains and odors.

Comments: Does this look real? Also, what was the msrp when available?

It looks ok to me but other opinions would help. The seller posted the original listing where she bought it, and the seller's name sounds familiar for some reason:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/31035409152...id=m570.l2736&_nkw=310354091529&_fvi=1&_rdc=1

BTW, please try not to make a duplicate post when the first one doesn't get answered. Just post a link to the original post, or ask for someone to check the number of the original post. And also remember that the few authenticators here have other obligations and aren't always available OR just may not know the answer.

I looked at the listing which the seller posted as the listing from which the bag was purchased.

This seller claims the bag was purchased "on Ebay about 1 1/2- 2 weeks ago" but the listing she pointed to ended 2 months ago (October 31).

Note that the listing from the "original" seller looks okay but because the seller has private listings and because the neither buyer nor seller left feedback for the other, there's no way to know whether the bag is the same one.

The listing in question doesn't show a photo of the lining color or the creed. Those are necessary for authentication.

It looks genuine, but it's NOT from the 1970s - not even close. It only looks older.

The serial number shows it was made in 2000, so it's not "vintage" either. It looks as if the leather has never been conditioned. There's also what looks like a thin line of verdigris (that bit of light green) beginning at the base of the turnlock in the second-to-last photo. That has to be taken care of immediately or it will damage the brass and can even spread to the rest of the brass hardware. It's in a hard spot to clean since it's right against the leather and whatever cleaner you use, even ketchup, might have an effect on the leather. If it's actually verdigris it's probably best to take off the turnlock to clean it.

I hope this is okay to ask here. How do you take care of verdigris?

It's a chemical change like a rust that affects copper and brass and needs to be taken care of or it will damage the metal just like rust does.

There are commercial cleaners, but usually an acid like vinegar or lemon juice will work too. A lot of people also recommend ketchup. Verdigris is a common problem with older items made of brass or copper (it's what makes copper roofs turn green) and you see it sometimes on vintage jewelry made of those metals. If you Google "removing verdigris" you'll find other natural removers along with chemical ones.

Hello,
Thank you very much for your help to authenticate this bag.
I am a little hesitant to post it, because I had lost an auction on a great Burberry purse after I posted on the purseblog.
But I believe it is better to have peace of mind on knowing the bag is real, vs. throwing away good money on a fake.

Item: Coach Burnt Orange Leather Belted Satchel Purse EUC

She emailed me a close-up of the creed:
ry%3D480

Do you think this mark will come out, or is it noticeable enough when I am carrying the bag?

Any additional information you have about Coach Hamilton 10529 or Hampton 13084 is greatly appreciated.
I kick myself for not jumping on this great bag: http://www.ebay.com/itm/330659782452?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Again, thank you very much,
Amanda

Comments: Real? Year?

Thank you ladies so much! I really appreciate the time you take to help others out!

I'd advise against bidding on that one because there's a discrepancy in the serial number. The plant code "E" should be used on bags made in Italy, not in the US. I'm also a little worried that the grommets around the holes in the hand straps for the buckles look almost silver, or at least don't seem to be the same brass color as the rest of the hardware.

There are a few other tiny differences which would be explainable in bags made in different plants but combined with the plant code itself they make me unsure if the bag's genuine.
