Hi im buying a coach bag from a online shop, for model Madison Gathered Leather Lindsey. The seller send me the pic of creed serial no. is F1182 - 18643, but went to my local coach boutique & saw the same design creed serial no. is H1182 - 18643. When i ask the seller, she said: most of my items were purchased from high end department stores in usa
in my opinion, the serial creed no. may be different due for some reasons:

a) coach made different code for items sold at dept store and items sold at coach boutique store

b) coach made different code for items sold in USA or outside USA, i've noticed that sometimes local boutique carry different colors than USA boutique store. Is it true of what she said? She claim that her bags are 100% authentic. Pls help me to verify, TIA!!

Please post a link to the seller's website and to the bag you are buying. And yes, sometimes local department stores get different styles and colors than Coach's own stores. But they only way for us to see if a bag is genuine or if the seller is honest is to see the advert and the photos.

And the first letter of the serial number only shows the MONTH that the bag was made. It's very common for two identical style bags with the same style numbers to have different month codes. The first group of numbers and letters are all codes showing when and where the bag was made.

The bag looks okay though personally, I wouldn't buy from nor recommend seller hatteras96. Many of her listings include stolen stock photos and some listings (that have been running for nearly 2 weeks) have no pictures and no description at all.

Something is fishy, IMO. Here's one example among many is this 30-day listing with 18 days left:

Yep!.... I know :( Kind of mean if you ask me. Ive since watched and come to the same conclusion. I could have had a very nice bag for the price I paid......
Live and learn I suppose.

Comments: My husband purchased this for me as a gift. We both aren't sure if it is real, mainly because of the creed spacing, and the stitching. I have the bag in hand a took a few extra pictures, but I am having trouble uploading them. The creed stamp says M0772-F10923. Thanks in advance!

All we can go by is the photo of the creed that was included in the listing, which isn't very good. When you can get your own photos uploaded we can take a look at those. Right now I'm not seeing any obvious problems, but more opinions are welcome.

What aspect of the creed spacing don't you think is correct?

The last line of the creed is one word and it's left aligned and not centered. There is also an odd gap in in the middle of two words.

I was also bothered by the "c's" not being centered along the stitching, and they meet up funny on the sides. I am by no means an expert and have only ever owned one Coach purse before. I have no idea what to be looking for, but based on what I have read the "c's" should be aligned in the center and come together evenly on the sides.

I couldn't get them to upload here, so I used tinypic:

Thanks for you help!

Authentic.

It's almost impossible to get Mini Sig Cs to line up along the seams, and even standard-size Cs don't always match up where the seams or edges of a bag are rounded. DON'T believe any "rules" you may have found in so-called Authenticity Guides that claim all Coach seams (or anything else from a Coach plant) are perfect, becausae they're not. And 98 percent of those Guides and other fountains of authenticity advice are completely useless and undependable. Details on Coaches, including serial numbers, creeds, hangtags, etc, change constantly. There are NO "rules". The Signature I use under every post I make is a hundred times more accurate than any Rule you'll find in any Guide, with maybe a dozen exceptions.

It's also a good idea, as I mentioned in a previous post earlier tonight, to look at other bags with the same style number - if they're made in the same plant, month and year and have the same details, chances are that you're looking at what's normal and not something questionable.

Case in point:

Especially this one - same plant, month and year:

If it makes you feel any better, after having seen your pictures, I have no doubt that my original opinion of "authentic" is correct.

I suspect that she created some extra listings, maybe to take advantage of a special seller listing rate that was expiring, thinking that she could update them once she actually had an item to sell. I can't think of any other reason. I have seen sellers put up a bunch of empty listings and then go back later and add the details. Of course, there is no excuse for stealing photos.

Thank you so much! I was so bummed that we may have gotten a fake and didn't want that hassle. I am so excited now!

That would be possible and excusable if the listing were new. But after nearly 2 weeks without updates, her motive is questionable.
It DOES! Thank you so much for your help!
You're very welcome.

More pictures would have been nice, but it appears to be fine.

In the future, please refer to post #1 of the thread for the requested posting format. It's helpful in searches for seller IDs and items.

thanks, both of you! I missed out on it, but I'm not too upset about it :)

and yes, in the future, I will use the right format - I didn't even think to look at the rules - sorry!

Item: Prairie Bag 9954 made in 1996
Seller: Savers ($3 after discount)
Dimensions: 8” tall, 9.5” wide, 3.5” deep

Comments: Please authenticate, thank you. I will post creed pictures with the next message.

I was surprised that this cute bag was marked so cheaply but now that I’ve examined it in the bright light I realize that it is covered in shoe polish (yuk!) So now I am really glad that I didn’t spend very much on it!

Here are creed pics for the shoe-polish coated prairie bag. The creed is very hard to read, let me know if I should try again to get better pics. Thanks again!

Looks good - or it will, once you get the shoe polish off. Good luck!

Thanks, I'd better go buy some more rubbing alcohol!

Do you know if the prairie bag was released in 1996-7 or is it an older style that has been released multiple times? This is the first time I've come across it, thanks again!
