Hello!!
Please help me authenticate... I sold this Coach bag on ebay and the buyer is telling me that it's a fake and she said a bad fake too! I'm sure that it's authentic but I would love to direct her to the authentication of the bag here. Since I can't post a link to my own ebay auction I'll include pics and all the other details. Thanks!! Plus, if she does send it back I'll have this when I post it again. TIA

Oops, forgot the creed:

I see the letter "L" but what are the 2 numbers or letters that follow?

:smile1:

Just 2 more questions. Does the strap detatch? And is there an open pocket at the very back of the bag that's behind the pocket that has the creed stamped on it?
Thank you again for all of your help.
Yes, the strap does detach on both sides. Yes, there is open pocket at the back of the bag behind the open pocket that has the creed. Thanks!

"L6S-" is NOT a good sign. Also the way the serial itself is stamped doesn't look right. That style has been closely faked before. That style wasn't introduced until early 1999 so a late 1996 serial is a big red flag. The plant code "S" should indicate China, not the US. There's also a mix of fonts in the serial number that shouldn't be there.

CHANEL_LOVVER, did your buyer give any specific reasons why she thought it was fake?

None that I know of, unless someone else can identify it or find it in a catalog. I've seen similar styles before, just can't find them in any of my records.

The condition bothers me a bit too, the outside seems to be in very good condition although I wonder about the color being original.

*******
If it has been dyed, is it still considered authentic? and if it **were** a non-original color, does that reduce it's authenticity, and does the new color wear off?

If it's been redyed, it's still authentic, but NOT original.

Value is subjective - something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

As for color wearing off, it's impossible to say. It depends of the quality of the work and the dyes. Only experience will tell.

Oh Goodness now I feel horrible!!! I got the bag at my local consignment store and the leather was nice and thick and I honestly never had a second thought. The buyer said the bottom was plastic which is not the case.

You often can't tell real from fake just by the leather. I've seen real Coaches with thin lightweight leather, and fake bags with leather every bit as thick, soft and smooth as the real thing. Even getting the small details like hardware and stitching right aren't that difficult for the professionals, it's surprisingly easy for a pro to fake a classic leather Coach, and there are probably more fakes in circulation than even I can imagine.

One other problem with yours is the inside of the handles. The picture shows that the quality of the cutting and stitching on the underside isn't nearly as good as the outside. Usually Coach is more careful about how all those leather pieces are stitched and finished.

But the big problem is still with the creed stamp and codes, they just aren't right for the bag. That's why we always insist on clear photos of the creed and serial number when authenticating. Even the most careful resellers have been fooled by well-made fakes - without understanding Coach's numbers and codes and a style's production history it's very easy to make a mistake.
