All my recent Coach purchases have arrived and I am thrilled with every single one. The Coach Poppy Signature Lurex Glam Tote you looked at for me last week http://www.ebay.com/itm/120811954778...84.m1439.l2649 has an odd little thing on the creed. Can someone take a look? It's a sun/star stamped in the top right corner, I've seen the bullseye there before but never a sun. The bag is amazing, heavy fabric, perfect stitching, like new really, I think I got a great deal. I just hope it is!

Here's the image link, bear with me if it doesn't work! The lining is pink NOT purple :)

Good morning, we got around 4 inches of snow last night! Quite a sight to wake up to
Can anyone please help identify the sun shaped stamp on the creed of this Coach bag for me? I have a limited amount of time to dispute it's authenticity.
Thanks so much!
I don't see any problems with the bag as far as authetnicity goes, though other opinions are welcome.

The sunburst marking could be something that a particular store does to indicate its items. (Either Neiman's or Nordies stamps an "N" on their bags.)

Comments: measures 6" length by 7" height by 4" wide.
Looks like a small version of the Stewardess Bag.*

There's nothing in my catalogs exactly like that but there are gaps in those files. It's the same shape as a Classic Shoulder Bag but those measurements are usually given as about 10x9 inches. There was also a Small Shoulder Bag with the same shapes, features and approximate measurements as yours but it had a turnlock. My guess would be some short-lived non-turnlock version of the Small Shoulder Bag that isn't in any of my files. There's a photo below of the Small version from a 1983 catalog.

I suspect a fake, but verification is appreciated!

title: Electric Blue Coach Bag-9816

item no: 170731373771
seller: jenssale (100% positive feedback)

thank you so much!

VERY fake. Wrong style number 9816 belongs to an older style smooth leather bag, and in serial numbers from after 1994 and before 2004 the middle digit of the first half of the serial number should ALWAYS be a number.

That serial number is also on my Fakes List as "always fake" because the number itself is invalid and would never have been used by Coach, but has been found in many fake bags. Please see posts 549, 550 and 551 in the Answers thread:

ETA - to add BeenBurned's ETA - and because "invalid" only has one "n"
"ETA: Note to self: Check to see if post is repeating what was already posted".

BTW, it looks like the zipper pull has been replaced.

my query -- he has two bags listed a black one and this brown one. The Creed is K5C-9966. I thought the 9966 only was made since 1997, but wouldnt this creed mean it was made in 1995? maybe i'm just confused. I'm still learning the 'code', have been studying all of Hyacinth's amazing info. thanks so much, and happy thanksgiving.

Please wait for other opinions on this seller. I can tell you that had you come here before bidding, we wouldn't have recommended doing business with 229kentina2002.

There are many red flags:

1. Seller has large number of identical items.
2. Seller uses no actual pictures of the items
3. Selling prices are too low for seller to have possibly been able to get that many at such low prices and to afford to sell at those prices
4. Recent neg alleging a fake Dooney and another neg alleging that item sent wasn't same as item described.

Regarding your pictures, I have a few comments but because I haven't seen that actual style, I'm not sure whether my comments may be valid. I hope someone who has the wallet might have input.

1. The font on the top half of the inside of the tag doesn't look correct
2. The text on the back of the tag (following pic) is something I've never seen. Has anyone else seen this?

Unfortunately, I'm not optimistic about your purchases.

Edited to add:

An item that is still currently on Coach's website isn't going to be discounted and selling at the quantities that this seller has.

Hi again ladies,

Just wanted to send an update...I stopped by the factory store in Centralia, WA in my quest for the perfect Zippy. :smile1:

I found a few items with the odd text on the back of the tag and also the different (smaller and more round) font on the inside of the tag:

http://gallery.me.com/gordomom#100821&view=grid&bgcolor=black&sel=0

It does still concern me that she had so many at a discount while they are still on the Coach website at full price.

What do you think? Is there a possibility the Julia Zippies from this seller are ok? :sweatdrop:

Thank you!!

The Legacy Zip appeared in the Spring 1997 catalog as "new" which means the first ones made for official release would have been made in Fall or Winter 1996. But Coach sometimes did early releases of bags - much like today's Pilot bags - a year or so before full production.

What makes me think that may have happened with the Legacy Zip and Legacy Small Flap is their style numbers. While Coach in the past didn't follow a strict sequence or any specific rules in how style numbers were chosen, there are times when a cluster of numbers was given to a group of bags that were designed if not necessarily released for production at about the same time. (New style numbers on current bags are kept to a much more exact seqeunce.)

For instance, quite a few new styles were released officially in late 1995, the holiday and Fall catalogs show "New" style numbers from 9973 all through at least 9984 just in that time period. Styles 9971 and 9972 were introduced in the Spring 1995 catalog. Many of the bags in the original Legacy series that we're familiar with like Janice's 9950, Patricia's 9951, Faith's 9949, Lula's 9952, and Helen's 9953 were all released in late 1994 as were other bags in the same numerical sequence like the Bellacourt, Pelham Zip and Petite Pelham Zip 9957,9958 and 9959 were also shown as "new" in the late Fall 1994 catalog.

While those close-numbered styles don't prove anything, they tell me that it's possible that the Legacy Zip 9966 and Legacy Small Flap 9965 may have been designed in that 1994-95 time period and maybe even some early versions made and sold. Coach may have decided to delay the official introduction for another year for reasons known only to them - my guess would be that there just were waaaaaay too many new styles coming out during that time period and Coach delayed the release of a few so they wouldn't get lost in the crowd, or because they were too similar to other new styles.

As I said, it's just speculation on my part, and style numbers in sequence don't neccessarily prove that all those bags were designed at the same time. But they do tell me that it's a good possibility, especially during this time period. When looking at serial numbers and codes, the possiblities of Coach stretching things a bit, or just plain making mistakes, always has to be considered.

Thank you for the update regarding the new markings on the Coach tag. I hadn't seen that yet.

That said, I still wouldn't do business with 229kentina2002. Unless she hijacked a delivery truck or stole those items, there's no way she can afford to sell authentic Coach (and Dooney) items in the quantities and at the prices she has.
