Ladies,

Is this genuine Coach? Thanks in advance for your expertise.

Please wait for Hyacinth on this one. According to this post, the prefix, J8Y has shown up on "good" fakes and it's possible that this bag might be one of them. http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-sh...enticity-questions-94198-40.html#post19645042

Looks fake to me. The leather zipper pull tab, the font used in the Coach logo on the creed, the uneveness of the letters in the creed statement, all look wrong. And the creed stamp is too low on the pocket.

There are just too many small problems with that bag.

The leather pull has issues that would never get past quality control and the creed is way to low for it to be real. Also, the color is camel, which came out quite a few years ago, probably 10 or so, and it would be very rare for it to be in that condition and be vintage- (Made in the U.S.) Hope that helps!

The condition of a bag should never be used to determine authenticity, except for the obvious overprocessing in some fakes that creates stretch marks resembling cellulite or elephany skin. There are plenty of expensive bags - which classic and vintage Coaches were back when they were brand-new - that were put away in closets for a special occasion or for a different season and never used, or only used a few times.

What bothers me more about the colors is that the large hardware like the strap buckles are obviously nickel, but the zippers look like some indeterminate color between nickel and brass when they should have much more of a nickel color, and the color of the fabric backing on the top zipper seems like it should be closer to the color of the bag. Whether the color difference is a result of the lighting used for the photographs is hard to say but it's another discrepancy that makes me wonder about the bag's authenticity.

And the leather pull and position of the creed stamp have already been mentioned.

There are a few posts here with a photo or two of the genuine bag. Here's one:

I don't know if Baglady39 checks this thread, but if she does hopefully she'll be able to give an expert opinion.

What I'm seeing doesn't look good though. The photos in the listing you posted look more like the ones found on fakes sites. On Baglady39's genuine bag the straps look much wider, the hardware such as the dog-leash clips for the straps are much larger and heavier, and there's an obvious difference between the metal hangtag on the genuine bag and on the one you posted - the metal tag on the auction bag is an obvious fake style that's been showing up for years.

Here's the photo Baglady39 posted:

If you've already bid on that bag, cancel your bid immediately.
