Hi ladies, do you think I could please get your opinions on this purse and wristlet. They were given to me by a friend who buys only from Coach outlet stores, but I just wanted to double check. The wristlet has a black lining with a black and white "Made in China" tag on the left side. Thanks

Worst fake material? ... I was looking through Ebay Coach listings and this came up under "lots".

Item: 2 Coach Bags. Flat backpack and another smaller
Listing number:260872441756
Seller: d_cool_cat_82
Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-Flat-...rse-Shoulder-bag-/260872441756#ht_13573wt_994
Comments: On the first bag: I know the rule of Coach inconsistency, but typically P is Costa Rica. But more than that the serial number looks very "puffy". Also the strap edges look "puffy".
2nd smaller purse: I am not that familiar with the newer bags but the first part of the serial number is JO43. I get the J and the 04 should mean 2004, but 3 is not a factory code.
What so you think? I tried to find this person on the search, but there are hyphens in the name and I was not able to find anything.
thank you.

You're right about the 9405 style being fake, because of the fake font and plant code but also because that style wasn't even created until 1999 or 2000. The outside pocket zipper pull is also wrong, please report.

But why do you say that "3" isn't a valid plant code? You may want to go back and read my updated Serial Numbers posts, both parts, at the Answers thread, check the most recent page of posts. The second bag is NOT fake, but will obviously come down anyway when the first bag is reported.

I'm really surprised about the creed in the larger bag. Not only isn't the creed stitching squared off correctly, but there's a big discrepancy in the plant code since "D" was the code for one of the US plants, and that plant would have been closed down several years before the bag was made.

The other details look ok but someone messed up the creed stitching.

ETA:
Even more curious is that there are two other ones for sale with 2 different year codes and the same "D" plant code:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Coach-Black...596?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item415e24649c

http://www.ebay.com/itm/AUTHENTIC-C...218?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item3cbd31b90a

So apparently the old "D" plant code was recycled but no one ever taught the plant employees how to sew a creed patch.

Hyacinth,

thank you!
I am reporting the first one as soon as I post this reply :) Thank you. I see what you are saying about the outside pocket zipper too!

I just re-read your serial numbers post. I guess because I look at mostly the older bags I "forgot" what I had read earlier in your post. I appreciate your suggestion to go back and read again ..

I see why you asked me now why I said that "3" was not a valid factory code. After I re-read your serial numbers post I got it: You said, and I hope its okay if I quote you, "...major expansion into manufacturing in the Far East meant that they were not only out of alphabet letters to use as plant codes, but they’d run out of single numbers as well, all plant codes were changed from one number to two - for instance Italy went from “E” to “12” - and now the minimum number of digits was a nice round “ten”.

So 3 is a valid code.. thank you Hyacinth for all that you do. I really appreciate how you keep helping me to learn and grow. :)

With much appreciation! K

Just as a footnote, the plant codes 0 (zero), 3, 6 and 9 were used quite a lot on Chinese-made bags after 2000 along with many letters. The very early pilot plants in China that were operating from late 1996 to 2000 whan production was changed over on a large scale probably used J, K and a few other letters.

Figuring out plant codes is a work in progress and probably always will be.

... also, reported that first bag and let Ebay know that the second is real. :)

Authentic.

Item: Coach signature "C" ergo dark brown hobo
Listing number: 250911852619
Seller: frizz719

Looks ok, but more opinions are welcome.
The bag in the pictures looks fine as long as the pictures are the actual item. The first picture appears to have some type of watermark or something on the lower right side. The middle picture appears to be from the same bag with the same pattern placement.

It looks okay but just verify with the seller that the pictures are the actual item.

That's very intresting... many thanks to both of you- you guys rock! :D

I also have one more purse (also one from an outlet) that looks a little odd to me, I'll have to get some pictures tomorrow.

Thanks again!
