I am looking at the creed in the last picture. I never saw a first line like this one. Thanks you.

Hey, two within a single week - we must be lucky!

And it's a SCARY good fake. In fact if it wasn't for that one little word I would have said it was genuine. But as far as we know and have ever been able to prove, there has never been a "Coach Bean Bag" except for a style of keychain.

The scary part is that the serial number stamping has exactly the same characteristics as a genuine bag would have, mainly the right "overstamping" marks over each number as far as I can tell. The font of the creed statement itsself is smaller than it should be in an older bag, but that would be easy for most people to overlook. It's an exact copy of a Madison Satchel Spectator and looks old enough to be real except for that one thing.

I REALLY want to take a good look at that bag.

Thank you - It was hard for me to make out the word "bean". I thought it must have said something else. As you know, I'm a newbie, so I am trying to learn by looking at auctions of older Coach bags. Thank you again for all your help.

You're welcome. And thanks for asking about it, it's "fascinating" (in my best Mr Spock voice).

I didn't realize Coach had any bags that had little tags like that in them. So does Coach still have bags made in Italy currently? Or are they all China now? I really love my Carlyle, the leather is to die for. I am on the hunt now for more of the Italian made bags by Coach.

As I mentioned, the only bags made in Italy now are the very expensive exotic leathers.

Comment: Any info about this bag, style name and year, etc?

The same one is up on Etsy but the zipper is totally different, which leads me to wonder if it is fake, or just a different season or something. I've asked for a creed photo.

OR it could be that at some point someone replaced a broken zipper. The handle hardware is brass but zipper is silver.

So, I'm wondering about this - why do they fake a bag & make it look so genuine & then use a word like bean in the creed that had never been used in the genuine Coach creeds? And would they fake just a few bags in a particular style? The world of the old Coach leather bags seems very complicated. :thinkin:

I've commented before on the first seller having fakes currently listed and sold. This one looks genuine but I can't personally recommend a seller who just sold a fake briefcase to someone for over 200 dollars. I know you had a good experience but there's no reason a seller can't make an effort to determine if he's selling real or fake.

The zipper of the second one isn't original but without seeing the creed it's almost impossible to give an opinion on authenticity.

(Neither of these styles were ever called Speedys or Doctors by Coach, they were just Soft Satchels).

Because apparently sometime somewhere a fakes maker found one of the original Bean Bag keychains or paperweights and thought that was the standard Coach creed - since they didn't speak English they had no idea that Coach purses weren't Bean Bags. They also used the older 3+4 format for the serial number although by that time Coach had probably changed over to the 4+3 version. I'm just amazed they took the trouble to figure out and reproduce the correct overstamping lines. "056-2040" is another number for the Fakes List.

Thank you, Hyacinth,

And I was amazed when you said that the bag was an exact replica of an authentic older style. I would have thought that would make it too costly to copy. Whew, trying to determine fake from genuine is complicated, indeed.

I also wonder about how a genuine bag made 10-15 years ago can look new? So does that enter into determining a fake - how good & un-worn a bag that is supposed to be 15 years old looks?

Speaking of the Fakes List...I believe I found one that was updated a few months ago. Is there a more recent one that I overlooked?

Thank your patience & explanations.
