It's an Envelope Portfolio from the late 1980s. It looks ok to me, I don't see why an unstructured style like this wouldn't have an extra reinforcement on the bottom but I'm not familiar with the actual bag.

The color might be Putty.

I didn't think the bottom piece was all that wrong, I just hadn't seen it before, even in newer briefcases. It makes sense and matches everything else, so I'm satisfied. Thank you, Hyacinth. Have a good day!

I've seen at least one other briefcase style with the extra bottom layer. Coach probably used it with briefcases or larger bags that they thought needed it.

Thanks, Hyacinth. I notice that everyone keeps listing these late '90s and early '00s bags as vintage when clearly they're not--why is that? I just emailed the seller about that first tote. Do you happen to know what year the Janice's legacy with the above creed is from?

I can't quite read it in the photo - it's the second digit. If it's a 9 that would be 1999. Post 34 in the Answers To Authenticity Questions Thread tells you how to read a Coach serial number with bags made in 1994 or later.

Good! I'm glad it turned out to be ok. :smile1:

1- We need to see a better photo of the creed.

2- Seems to be ok

3 - ok, but technically not "vintage" yet since it was made in 1998

I contacted the seller for #1 (stripe tote) and got this response.

"Hello, the pictures are already posted & I can't send any in emails due to ebay policy + they will remove your address in the message. The bag is authentic. It is from the Coach Outlet in... It is in like-new condition.
Good Luck bidding!
"

It's a little frustrating when a seller refuses to send a creed photo, especially when the bag is potentially real. I explained to the seller that I've had MANY sellers gladly offer to send photos or simply have added the photos to their listings.

You need more pictures of the second one. They can't authenticate with just one picture

1. Appears to be okay
2. Not enough pictures.

Her story does not hold water. You can ask her to e-mail you a photo and she can do so.

I'd never deal with a seller who refused to send or post a creed photo.

Thank you. I just found bookmarked it; now I can check my other bags too.

Please remember, for a bag to have been made in 1994 or later, the serial number has to start with a letter of the alphabet. All the other digits can be all numbers OR a mix of numbers and letters. But any serial that's ALL numbers is from before 1994 and won't have either the manufacturing and date codes OR the style number of the bag in the number. The older ones are just a string or random numbers with no significance.
