Obviously, I'm new here and want to offer a HUGE THANK YOU for all the info!

I ran to my closet and was relieved to find that the bags I have already bought *seem to be* authentic by all the tips from this site!

My problem is determining whether the new tartan plaid, scribble and patchwork designs are fakes. There are a few I am watching on an auction site (don't know if I can name it here). Any advice or tips would be welcomed BEFORE I bid on them -

http://cgi.ebay.com/COACH-PATCHWORK...WH_Handbags&hash=item5196a2d75a#ht_778wt_1139
I'm dying for this bag, but this price seems to be in the "too good to be true" category. I did place a $20 bid which, of course, does not meet the reserve.

http://cgi.ebay.com/NWT-COACH-EAST-...H_Handbags&hash=item1c17a99d0f#ht_1132wt_1139
I love those totes and would really like the new tartan if it is real.

And now for those pesky scribble items (I'm not particularly bothered by some dirt wear around the corners and bottom - 99% of the time it will come clean enough to carry - and I realize I'm buying a USED bag, I care that it's AUTHENTIC!)

http://cgi.ebay.com/Coach-Hampton-S...ultDomain_0&hash=item336326ef7f#ht_528wt_1139

http://cgi.ebay.com/Coach-Scribble-...WH_Handbags&hash=item43a3b727ea#ht_565wt_1139
The BIN of $85 is a red flag for me.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Coach-Scribble-...WH_Handbags&hash=item230c516150#ht_500wt_1156

http://cgi.ebay.com/Coach-Patchwork...WH_Handbags&hash=item3363363ca7#ht_500wt_1156

These auctions have plenty of time left - and if I don't get these, there will always be more!

Thank you in advance for any help! I'm so glad to have found a place that I'm NOT the "weird" girl with a purse obsession! :yahoo:

Welcome to tPF!

With so many questions in one post, rather than trying to respond, I'm going to request that you split your questions by style and/or seller.

i.e., the scribble totes from different sellers can be in the same post but the other styles should be different posts.

Please post in the format requested in the first post of the forum as it makes it easier to search for and comment on sellers and/or items. http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-577470.html#post14912099

That "hangtag" is actually a little bigger than a purse's hangtag, look at the measurements and check them out on a ruler. A classic purse hangtag is usually about 1 x 2 1/4 inches, so if you hang that one from a bag it's probably not going to look exactly like a hangtag for a vintage bag. An actual hangtag would not have a keyring or a clip on it either but would hang from a ball chain. It would make a nice piece of purse jewelry and that's what a lot of us would probably use it for but how well it works as a hangtag probably depends on the bag you're putting it on and how well the color of the leather and the brass match up. If the seller includes the ball chain mentioned in the listing at no cost, I'd ask for it. It DIDN'T come from Coach with a keyring and clip, those were added by the seller.

As for whether it's genuine, it's hard to say. It's definitely NOT from a bag more than a few years old so it may not match up well with a classic bag. Personally, I don't like to see sellers listing hangtags separately since that usually means they either took the tags off a bag they were selling which cheats the buyer of the bag of an important part of the purse, or they've taken unfair advantage of Coach's policy of sending free replacement hangtags to customers who need one, which seems just a bit dishonest to me when the customer is just going to turn around and sell it for a profit on Ebay.

You could make a hangtag/keychain like that yourself - call Coach and tell them you need a replacement hangtag in navy with brass hardware and give them the serial number of the bag (if they don't have navy in stock they'll probably just send a metal one) and buy a set that includes the clip, keyring and ball chain from an Ebay/Bonanza seller like Silver-Coach and make your own. Here'sjust one of the sets they sell:
http://cgi.ebay.com/MINI-ZIPPER-PUL...t=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&var=&hash=item99ab27a8d4

and more here:
http://desc.shop.ebay.com/silver-co...=1&_from=R10&_ipg=&_mPrRngCbx=1&_udhi=&_udlo=

or at Bonanza:
http://www.bonanza.com/booths/SCECKERT

I've redone a lot of Coach keychains as purse bling using their clips and chains, just be sure to check the measurements in the listings (they sell several diferent sizes and types of clips) against a ruler so that what you're buying is in correct proportion to the bag you're putting it on and that the opening in the clip will fit over the hardware - O-ring, D-ring, buckle, whatever - of the bag you'll be putting it on. The hardware isn't made by Coach but it's a close match and is probably what the Ebay seller of the navy keychain uses to make her pieces.

The purple bag in the other listing is genuine - I bought a different style in the same leather and color at the outlet earlier in the year.

Thanks Hyacinth, for the feedback and ideas. After I posted my question, I was doing some reading in other Coach threads and found out that Coach would replace a lost hangtag. As you pointed out, matching the color could be tricky otherwise, so I will try that first, and maybe dress her up with a scarf or something. The bag I bought is a 2001 Legacy Hobo 9058 (according to the TPF'r that authenticated it for me) and the only place I see that I could even put a hang tag would be on of the strap buckles. Is that where it should be? I was also wondering if Coach bags have always had hang tags or not.

One more question on a side note: How do I multiquote? Whenever I click on that icon, the green plus sign in it turns to a red minus sign. Am I not doing it right?

Thanks so much for all your help and insight! Who knew purse shopping could be this complicated?!

I've watched seller ss262809 for some time and personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing business with the seller.

I've watched the seller sell hundreds of hangtags, some of which look "questionable," and most of which, if authentic would be next-to-impossible to get in the quantities that this seller has.

The stitching on this one raises red flags in my mind. And how did he get 9 of them to sell - all with such sloppy stitching? (3 were already sold and 6 more are available.)
http://cgi.ebay.com/AUTH-New-Coach-...361?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27b62a61a1

For a seller who doesn't even sell the corresponding handbags that went with the hangtags to have so many, the acquisition of those hangtags seems sketchy to me.

JMHO.

VERY GOOD to know, Been Burned!! Thanks. I won't buy from this seller!

Thank you for correcting me, BeenBurned - I thought I got all the way back to the 1st post in that thread, but it turns out the pages were backwards, I should have been on page 606, not page 1!

And, thank you for the welcome!

As requested - items separated.

I have trouble with patchworks, scribbles and the new tartans

You posted this fine! The "item" would just be a copy and paste of the title of the listing. Item number is the listing number.

The bag is authentic.

Can anyone offer some suggestions for scribble items? I love the colors and the light fun look of this design, but also know it would be very easy to fake!

I just saw that comments on price or condition are taboo! Edited them out!

The Tartan tote

Comments: The newness of the seller disturbs me.
I don't feel comfortable with the seller either and I wouldn't recommend buying from 1crazydude.

The picture in his listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/NWT-COACH-EAST-...H_Handbags&hash=item1c17a99d0f#ht_1132wt_1139

Is stolen from this seller: http://cgi.ebay.com/NWT-COACH-SIG-S...660?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item5addc9a24c

The gallery picture in this listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/NWT-COACH-GABBY...894?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item1c17a92f16

Was stolen from this seller: http://cgi.ebay.com/COACH-GABBY-DIA...366?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item3f0533765e

Not only is picture (and/or description) theft a violation of ebay policy but it's unethical and misleading to buyers who don't know what they'll get.
