This is a top rated seller and the description looks authentic. It is pre-owned from seller's personal collection. My only concern is this part of the description: "11203: $398 + tax" Is that what the seller originally paid? Why, then, is the bidding only starting at $0.97? I'm new at this, but I know that I want a classic looking leather bag that is relatively low priced. Thank you.

EDIT: Oh, also the description says "Rare" Is this actually rare? Thank you.

What is the name of this bag? When was it made?

Sorry! :shucks:

Thought I had done the initial post wrong.

Don't feel bad...You were just fine. I just wanted you to be aware that you did get an answer!!

And, may I say, what a great find. Unfortunately I never did find a fabulous Coach (Made in NYC) bag in any of the many houses I've lived in.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do with it.

:D

It looks fine.

Although it's risky in this economy, many sellers like to start their auction prices low in order to encourage bidding wars. The risk is that the bidding frenzy of past years might not happen and the seller might have to sell the bag for a lot less than she wants.

Thank you. I think I'll watch it for a few days (it has 9 more days to go) and see if anyone else bids.

Do you, or does anyone, know if it is actually rare and if the "11203: $398 + tax" is the price she bought it for? Someone I know suggested that the 11203 is actually 11/2/03: the date she bought it. Could that be true? Thanks.

I don't believe it's particularly rare although there are only 2 current listings for style 11203 at this time. The other listing is a white bag.

Neither seller shows a legible picture of the creed (which they both should show) so i don't know the year the bag was made.

As for the $398 original price, that's the msrp from the tag. I'm not sure whether it's a MFF (made for factory) bag so I don't know whether it was ever actually sold for the suggested retail price, but many sellers do use that price in their listings. It usually isn't intended to imply that it's what they paid for it, but rather, it's a guideline for what it would sell for if sold at full price.

As for the style number, 11203 being indicative of a 2003 date purchased, wherever you got that information, it's incorrect.

Be advised that most of the authentication guides on ebay and on the internet are either outdated, incomplete or just plain full of misinformation.

Thanks. I'll e-mail the seller and ask for a more legible photo of the creed. The comment about the date was just a guess.

Please tell me if this is authentic. Thanks is advance.

I don't see any problems in the two pictures you've posted, but it would be helpful to see a picture of the creed. The seller should have more than one picture in her auctions.

The seller said that she no longer photographs the creed directly, since she has been informed that counterfeiters use photos from eBay and so she doesn't want to help them. Sounds reasonable to me.

Nope, not reasonable.

The counterfeiters don't need her creed to copy. If necessary, they can buy a few different authentic bags and use them as templates to manufacture their fakes.

She's probably been reading some of the crazy guides and advice that proliferate on the internet.

Creeds are often very telling when it comes to determining authenticity. It's rare that the fakers can get everything right when they make their products and although Coach has a lot of inconsistencies with regard to their "rules," the details on the creeds and other determining factors help differentiate between authentic and fake.

You might want to direct the seller here so she can understand (and ask questions) why it's important to show clear and legible creeds.

I directed her here. If she does not show me the full photo, she still has a 7 day return policy so I can always check the creed myself.

Thanks so much for all your help.
