Thanks! I guess I do have a lot to learn! I seem to be mixing up a lot. Just a quick question on the hang tag being yellow. On one of the how to' sit said that it is a sign of a fake is that not true in all cases? That is what made me think it was a fake. Thanks again!

You should NEVER use something that can be changed or replaced as easily as a hangtag to authenticate a bag.

I'm not sure if the hangtag is original but the bag is genuine. Please don't ever report a Coach because the hangtag doesn't seem right.
Actually, the yellow hang tag is correct for that item in that color combination:

You have to be wary of the many "authenticity guides" and "how to spot a fake" guides on the internet. Few are written by real experts, many are copy-and-pastes of others' guides, most are either obsolete, incomplete or just plain wrong.

With most Coach, there's no such thing as "always indicates fake" or "Coach never does X" because nearly every "rule" has exceptions.

With regard to hangtags, although there are many different styles, materials and construction, another problem with hangtags is that they can be removed, lost and/or replaced. Sometimes they're "replaced" by a hang tag the seller finds in the thrift or elsewhere and could be fake. Other hang tags are replaced by Coach with whatever type of hang tag they happen to have to send as a replacement.

About the only things (so far) that are always true about Coach is that no Coach bag has ever been made in Korea and no Coach solid signature bag will have signature lining. (This "rule" doesn't hold true for patchwork or mixed materials exteriors.)

It looks fine.
Are the patches usually indented stamped into the leather or can there be just an ink stamp?

I bought this awhile back and can't remember if I got it authenticated or identified. I have it in my files as #92549 but I think that is wrong. I also have #92745 as a possible ID. I'm worried because the stitching isn't very good and the rings seem a little thin. Other than that, it looks beautiful.

It looks ok, the style number is 92549 and it was a Japan and I think Dillard's release. 92745 had a different clip.

It depends on the style. Both methods were used and both methods were faked. They should always be authenticated here, and not bought OR reported until we've looked at them.

There are almost NO general one-size-fits-all Rules for Coaches, except for the 2 that BeenBurned mentioned. Every item has to be looked at as a unique style with it's own specific details. DON'T ever believe any nonsense posted in some of those "guides" that all Coaches "have to have" this or that detail. It just isn't true.

Please read the six Salearea Guides posted at Ebay for a basic primer on what to believe and what not to believe. The only thing that's changed since they were posted is that Coach bags made after Summer and Fall 2014 will no longer have serial numbers on their creed patches. And ignore what other anonymous guides say.

So confusing! Well at least there are two for sures and I will most definitely check here first after being suckered a couple of times!

Is this creed valid? I am in a polite discussion with a seller. I liked a bag and asked for a photo of the creed. Seller said they removed the listing because of errors. Then seller sent me an email today saying the bag did not have a serial number (still no photo)with a link to the Daria guide about Coach Bean Bags, and was I still interested in the bag. I replied with the part of the guide that stated there were a lot of fakes and said I needed a creed photo. Seller sent me photo and said listing was pulled by eBay and they are appealing. Pretty sure it is a fake and would like confirmation. Seller's ID is tdavido1.

That bag was asked about here: http://forum.purseblog.com/showpost.php?p=29672667&postcount=11813
I can confirm it is fake. The strap attachments had metal brads, rather than being sewn. The creed is a bean bag creed and doesn't have a serial number. A bag made in the 90s would have a number. The creed itself has problems in the size of the cartouche and the spacing.

Please authenticate, thanks.

I don't think it's genuine. The serial font isn't quite right.

Rats. I thought the serial font looked strange too. Oh well. Thanks so much. Should I report it?
I agree it is fake. I think you can report it.
