Uh oh. "Wrinkles" and it looks like "scra7ches" and some vertical lines around the serial number.
Not real, right?

It looks genuine to me. There's nothing wrong with "wrinkles"- sometimes the angle and lighting can make that "k" look almost like an "x" but it's not. And what you're seeing with "scratches" is another trick of the lighting. The lines around the numbers are from the stamping press.

Well, yay! Thanks. I love that style ( Mulberry bag?) so will be biding on that bag now!

And thanks for the name and style number on the not a portfolio, etc. bag.

Both are genuine.

The Court Bag would have been made between 1988 and 1991. The actual style number is 9870.

The Stewardess was made in 2001. Many Coach collectors including myself rate the Costa Rica bags and leathers in the top 3 for quality of both the construction and the leather, right up with bags made in the US and in Italy.

Thank you, everyone for your help. :)

Has anyone encountered a creed tag/serial number that looks like this? No spaces, no dashes... Bag doesn't seem super old, since it's "Made in USA", and not NYC

I'm waiting on a close up of the creed for this, but otherwise does it seem legit?

https://www.etsy.com/listing/123757271/15-discount-vintage-coach-city-bag

She has the creed transcribed:
"This is a Coach bag. It is made out of a completely natural glove tanned cowhide. The scars, scratches, veins, and wrinkles are natural markings characteristic of full grain leather. Made in New York City, USA"

Says the serial is # 765-5744

Thanks ladies! Youre always very helpful.

You can never use just a written transcription of the creed OR the serial number to prove authenticity. It's the visual details of the stampings themselves that are important.

Ten years of reading hard to read creeds can be a big help though. What I see looks ok. The bag was probably made around 1987.
