Hi ladies! Please help with this wallet!

Item: coach green leather wallet

Site: poshmark

Seller: chrissy1j

Notes: what are some hallmarks I should look for in a wallet for authentication?
The wallet looks good.

Wallets are tricky because they're well-faked and buyers are usually advised to authenticate them prior to purchase and/or buy from sellers with a proven history of selling genuine Coach.

1- as long as you get the same bag as in the photos, it's genuine. I hope the seller supplied better photos showing the condition of the bag, Coach's light leather colors can be hard to get clean once the get stained or ink-marked. The bag is a Kristin Woven Round Satchel, nicknamed "Baby Sage" here at tPF.

2- did you see that the longer strap is missing? And I really don't understand why the seller has a "list" price of ten THOUSAND dollars next to the "sale" price! I think brand new they were under $500. And it looks like 2 of the original 3 hangtags are missing, the smaller black one did NOT come with the bag. The two metal ones are missing, see pics below. Other than those problems, the bag seems to be genuine.

galinag is still denying that it's fake. Since it'll be returned, watch for her to relist.

Yeah I see that. Posh is asking for more pictures. I'll update on how they handle.

There are two online sources where the number is listed as always fake, and we've seen dozens of fakes with the same exact number. Remember, this is a number format from back when Coach used unique numbers for each individual bag, and a serial number in a GENUINE Coach was never repeated or duplicated. Here's the Daria48 Fakes List posted at Ebay, which has the same basic information as my list here at tPF:
http://www.ebay.com/gds/Fake-Coach-Serial-Numbers-NT-4903-and-more-/10000000002744619/g.html

And point out the misspelling in the creed.
The fake is a ripoff of the Soho/Lightweight Whitney Bag, which had completely different strap buckles - horseshoe-shaped, NEVER square like on the fake bag, see the picture below. Sohos and Lightweights ALWAYS had horseshoe-shaped buckles, it was one of the signature details of those styles. See the picture below from the Fall 1992 catalog. Another problem with the fake is that the Whitney wasn't even introduced until Summer 1991, more than a year AFTER Coach had changed their serial number format from 3+4 numbers to 4+3 numbers. That style would never have had an older 3+4 serial number like the 012-3445 number in the fake, even if the number itself had been genuine.

Another problem is with the top zipper pull. Coach NEVER used that type of metal pull ring with a marquise-shaped insert with or without the Coach name stamped in it on ANY of their classic leather bags - in fact never used it on any kind of bag until around 2009 when they introduced a similar pull exclusively for their new Poppy line. An older bag that's not a Poppy with that pull design is ALWAYS fake, see a close-up of the fake pull below.

Feel free to supply this information to Poshmark, along with a suggestion that they save the link to Daria's Fakes List.

Hi again! Many, many thanks for all of your help (and patience) as I search for my next vintage Coach bag. I so appreciate it! Hopefully, this will be my last request for a while:

Item: COACH Vintage USA *NEAR MINT* British Tan Baxter Satchel Speedy Bag w Long Strap
Listing number: 262087436266
Seller: kitten0709
Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/262087436266
Comments: N/a

Thanks again!

It looks ok.

This is the type of listing you should be looking at. No ink, great photos. Ask about odors (I didn't read the listing so maybe it is in there).

Hello!

Sooo... I took the plunge, bought this bag, and just received it yesterday. As I was looking it over, I noticed two things I wanted to run by the authenticators here. I feel like I'm probably just being paranoid, but are either of these cause for concern?

  1. The back of the interior pockets appears not to have been dyed - one is partially covered, and one is completely gray and un-dyed. Could this have been a manufacturing mistake?
  2. The interior zipper pull appears to be plastic. On my NYC Stewardess bag, I believe the interior zipper pull is metal, but I know this Baxter is a bit newer.
Pictures attached. Thanks in advance for taking a look!

The Baxter seems to be in excellent condition. It doesn't even look as if there's any discoloration on the handles.

The dyeing was done by Coach's leather suppliers, so the "mistake" is theirs, and it's not a problem. Coach also sometimes shaved down the top layer of the back side of the leather to make it easier to sew seams, which is why some classic and vintage bags show a strip of white-ish leather along some inside seams.

Coach used nylon or plastic zippers in many bags starting back in the 1980s, as explained in one of the Salearea Guides. It's also never a problem as long as it's what the bag is supposed to have.

You may want to read the Salearea Guides if you haven't done so already.

Thank you so much for the pictures and reference! I love this style and has no idea what to look for...now I know! The fake pull pic is mine, that was the part that raised the authenticity question in my mind. I will certainly point poshmark to the info here if they don't approve it.

Thank you, thank you! Bag 1 has sold :( yes I saw that bag 2 was missing it's long strap but I didn't know it had 3 hang tags! Thank you for the info!

:ty: Hyacinth, thanks so much for taking the time to calm my nerves! I'll take a look at the Salearea Guides again today, I always enjoy learning more about vintage Coach.

The bag really is in superb shape - it looks as though it's hardly ever been used, or has been used by someone who is much gentler on their bags than I am.

Many, many thanks again!
