This is an interesting keychain. I'm wondering whether it has a mix of authentic and fake charms. Some of the colors look off and some of the fonts and enameling are off.

Opinions? (I'm sure I know the answer but I've been wrong before. :smile1: )

Seller: floridagirl36

Comments: Is this authentic? Was it part of a wallet (just curious; not really important because I only want a checkbook cover)? Is there anything about wallets that is usually a red flag (like signature fabric inside and outside is a red flag on bags)?

It looks like it could be okay. It was part of a wallet. Keep in mind that the wallet was a MFF wallet and probably sold for under $100 new. Coach never sold these checkbook holders separately. Coach also made a stand alone checkbook holder of sorts that has credit card pockets too. It is called a multicase.

Coach changes things all the time so what used to be true may not be true in the future. Generally with wallets, the credit card slots will always be pockets rather than slots. The checkbook will never have a clear plastic flap. There won't be signature both inside and outside. The signature wallets are counterfeited more than leather. The Coach imprints often look like they are carved or aren't located in the correct place. If it is signature, the design needs to be symmetrical - the right half is a mirror image of the left half.

The round metal C charm is fake and so is the round Legacy Stripe charm with the "hills and valleys" in the enameling. So the whole thing is fake.

plastic on the brass?

thank you!

It looks fine to me but you may want to wait for more opinions.

I've seen that plastic protective piece on turnlocks before.

Authentic. I think it is from the early 60s. This is one of the first fabric linings Bonnie Cashin used when she first started working for Coach.

I agree, this one is fine. I often don't remove the plastic off the hardware on my new bags until it falls off. Sometimes I don't realize it is there.
Third opinion that the bag looks fine.

Confirmed!

Thank you! Good point about the original selling price. I ordered a hangtag multicase (should get here any day now; I ordered it a week ago). Is that the same thing?

Thanks again! Being able to spot the most obvious fakes should make my search a lot easier.

Thanks whateve and beenburned. Keeping my fingers crossed for this one! Tiny, tiny, bag but cute.
This was from a listing for a rehabbed one: "This is the ultimate Bonnie Cashin collector's purse.* It is featured in Anna Johnson's book "Handbags, The Power of the Purse" on page 353, which states that it was made in 1967"

I don't think so, if I'm remembering the Hangtag Multicase correctly. Coach uses the Multicase description for several completely different items. The checkbook-style multicase is just 2 sections with a snap close, credit card slots on one or both inside panels, usually 2 open bill or checkbook pockets, and usually no coin pocket, like the one in the attached photos.

The "normal" rules for Signature patterns like Whateve mentioned in her post don't apply for this style. There's no left-right symetry and the C pattern is aligned to be "read" when the case is vertical rather than horizontal. There are a few wallet types that don't follow the symetry rule, like these Sig Multicases, the Sig Optic designs, Scarf patterns, and the Sig Tartan styles made a few years ago for the outlets plus a few others. Those same lines also break the symetry "rule" in handbags.

Some Signature wallets from around 2003-2007 will also break the inside-outside rule by having Sig on the outside and Logo lining. Don't ever depend on "Rules" when trying to determine authenticity, most rules have a LOT of exceptions. The only engraved in stone Rules are that Patchwork items will always have the same patches on both sides, and that so far at least Coach has never made handbags in Korea,

Thanks.
Yes, it's fake too. The colors are wrong and it's missing charms that the authentic version would have.
Thanks. I have the original candy fob. I just wanted to make sure they didn't make another version.

You're welcome! Not the same thing, see Hyacinth's post.

You're welcome! Thanks for the extra information. Was there any other information, like a picture from the book or a name of the style?

This is the multicase I was referring to. The hangtag case is a multi-function case. I think the multicase was a factory style only.

If a seller has lots and lots of coach bags for sale on eBay, is that a seller to be wary of? There is a seller with two almost identical blue Sheridan bags at differing prices. I'd love a bag like this but seller has one negative feedback on their eBay record for a fake. (Vintagecornerfinds). So I put that seller into Search box on this thread. Comes up a couple of times in authenticate queries.
