Hi,

There is a listing on ebay, the link is

It shows a small saddle bag with a Federal Seal on it and the listing says it’s a Federal bag. I’ve never seen this before, only the regular Federal bags from 1972. I wondered if this is a valid Federal bag that’s even more rare than the regular Federal bag. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

Would you please authenticate this Coach bag? They have it listed as a 4202 but I'm not sure if that is correct. What's the style name & number of this bag?Do you think that it's in good condition?
Thank you.

It's authentic. If I'm recalling correctly, we surmised the style number was 4202 but that is just a guess since we never found it in any catalog. It is rare. It looks to be in very good condition. I think I see a bit of ink on the strap.

This seller seems to have copied the ad copy from the ebay listing. Obviously it isn't the same style. It is authentic. It is #4208 Dakota Cartwright bag. I think it is in very good condition.

I really have no idea. I've never seen it on a smaller bag. There is more than one story associated with the seal. One is that they were made 2 times - once in the Nixon administration around 1972. Those have metal plates, no creeds. The second run was during the Reagan administration in the 80s and possibly have creeds but no serial numbers. In these cases, they may have been made for the wives of ambassadors or other people in the government. Another story is that Miles Kahn discovered that there were no restrictions on the use of the federal seal so created bags with the seal and distributed them to stores for sale. Apparently there was a NY Times article in 1972 that stated as such. Another variation is that the bags were released blank and the government embossed them with the seal. A person who acquired one with a metal tag said it was the size of the one in this listing and was told by people at Coach that the embossing was done by the government.
