Hi all! I found two bags thrifting today, which I haven't seen in at least a year! I would appreciate your expert opinions.
The first is a black Taft with a Costa Rican creed. I've heard this is a commonly faked style but sure hope this one is real. She does have the soft feel of CR leather.
The Taft is fine from 2002.

I have two more bags I'd like to check on, if someone would be so kind:

First one is a Murphy I found at a garage sale.

Second one is a slim duffle from Goodwill. This one has a wonky zipper pull that's got me a little concerned. One side of it looks uneven, and I can't tell if it's fake or just damaged.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the info! Bummer on the black one! Is it the creed or something else that gave it away? I'm trying to learn as much as I can about vintage bags, so I'd love to know what I missed.
Mostly the creed number, the font and specifically the plant code - J. The US J plant was never used for bags.

Hello!
Would you please let me know your thoughts on this Taft bag I purchased on EBay?
Item: Vintage Coach Bag Taft 9980 Mahogany Brown Crossbody
Item number: 256571654508
Seller: santawob
Listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/256571654508
Thank you so much!
Sorry but it's fake.

If you paid for it, ask the seller to cancel and tell her that it's counterfeit and cannot be relisted.

If you haven't paid, don't pay. Again, I suggest letting the seller know that she shouldn't relist.

Curious, was this style "Flat Cosmetic" available as a large also? If it was available as a Large Flat Cosmetic, any idea of the style number and an available photo? Many thanks!
I don't think so, at least not released at the same time. The small was 6990, the medium was 6991, so if there was a large you would think it would be 6992, but 6992 is a coin purse. I don't have a 6993 in my files. The medium is fairly large. Anything much larger doesn't seem like it would be a cosmetic case, it would be more along the lines of a portfolio.

True, it would be large and along the lines of a portfolio size. Even the medium #6991 could be considered a clutch size. Hoping I'll find another #6991 that's in great condition and doesn't break the bank. 🤞
Thanks for the added information.

Is this authentic? I woild also appreciate knowing the color name so I can find a wristlet or small wallet. It seems to be some sort of pink metallic. I purchased it on Ebay. Thank you!

I found this in my grandma's things. I have previously authenticated her purses and she loved the 9755s and similar cross body bags. This looks like all the rest of her 9755s, but it has a different set of numbers. Then I remembered I read somewhere that in earlier decades the model numbers did not match up to the present ones. This tracks as Grandma started collecting in the 60s, and this could be an earlier pocket purse before the model numbers were assigned. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this purse for authentication purposes.
