Dear authenticators,
Could you take a look at this vintage Coach backpack? The creed is a little bit worn. Thank you!
Item: Bixy full leather coach sling backpack
Seller and site where listed: kenzieraehey (Depop)

It's NOT a Bixby Sling. I 'm not even sure it's a real Coach. There's at least one small but serious problem with the serial number, which looks like M6C-9992 or -9993 - I'm not sure what the last number actually is, a real Handle Backpack would be -9992.

I'd really like to see aside view of the top of the bag clearly showing the metal rings holding the top handle on.

MORE OPINIONS ARE NEEDED.

How does a creed get that wrinkled? It's too hard to read. The shape of the handle worries me.

The underscore in the "No" is what's worrying me the most, but the wrinkled creed pocket is right behind it.

ETA - There aren't any M6C-s in my files but here's a genuine L6C-

On the questionable bag, I don't know if it's because of all those deep wrinkles, but the "G" in "variations in the Crain..." is missing the horizontal line, it looks like a C

Hi Hyacinth, here’s a pic from of the handle from one side of the bag. The seller said the last digit looks more like “3”…

I'm not even going to venture a guess on authenticity unless the seller can flatten and get a better picture of the creed but I do see a bullet stamp. (This isn't meant to imply authenticity because we've seen fakes with genuine and/or fake bullets.)

Thank you.

It was purchased in a store, not Goodwill online.

If you bought it recently, you maybe able to take it back and get a refund, or at least a store credit.

The "H" plant code in the serial number isn't valid. That plant had already been closed for a year by the date code (September 1999) in the serial number. AND that style 9058 wasn't even introduced until the 2000 Holiday (Christmas) catalog, 14 months after the date code in the fake.

Thanks for the photo. The hardware pieces that I needed to see look genuine, and those are one of several details that counterfeiters almost always get wrong. So if the wonky serial and creed stampings are simply the result of stamping a badly wrinkled or over-stretched piece of leather, the bag may be ok.

The leather wrinkling may have been an in-plant problem. I wonder if they were using overly wrinkled or textured or even over-stretched scraps for the inside pockets instead of the same texture of leather that the outside was made of. Here's another bag from that plant a month earlier with a strongly-textured inside pocket inside a Regina (one of the Reginas with an incorrect style number) with a smooth exterior. Click on the thumbnails.

I think it's okay.

The problem (and why I didn't respond sooner) is that these items are so closely faked, especially many coming out of Japan, that it's hard to authenticate them. And because benjamiwes_41's listing has a title and item specifics that appear to have been copied from Japanese sellers' listings as well as minimal definitive pictures, I am skeptical.

Since you have the item in hand and can examine it for quality, you are in a better position to gauge the quality.

I'd like @houseof999 to give her opinion.
Looks good to me!

Good Afternoon All,
I need help authenticating this beautiful bag on Poshmark but I have never seen a creed that mentions burnished leather on a vintage bag. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you:smile:

It's good. Quite a few styles made right after the new Millennium had what Coach referred to in the description and creed as "burnished" leather. I think Coach was trying to reproduce the patina that vintage bags sometimes developed. It's a Rambler's Legacy made in 2003.

Thank you:)

So its from 2003 huh so not quite vintage yet but still lovely! I don't blame them from trying to 'reproduce' that vintage patina. Have a lovely rest of your day.

May I have this Coach looked at please.
Found by my friend on the discord group while thrifting. (Tried getting them to come here themselves but no luck.).

These are the only two photos I have.
Hope you can help me.
Wish I could find vintage Coach thrifting...*sigh*

As long as you get the bag in the photos, it's fine. Ergo Pocket Zip from 1997
