Oops! I was too quick to respond!

Thank you for the additional pictures. PLEASE POST THE SELLER ID and a LINK TO THE LISTING.

I believe that the bag is fake, albeit very close.

The lining is incorrect (should be lozenge lining) and AFAIK, "X" isn't a US plant code.

Before opening a dispute, please wait for confirmation from either or both @whateve and @Hyacinth
I think my files didn't upload. I will post again.. i purchased at Mercari what seems to be a vintage coach legacy bag. I need authentication I appreciate your support. I cant post link where I bought it because it closed already since I purchased.
I agree, it's fake. X was a valid US plant code but not when this bag was supposedly made. The wrong lining and snap add additional proof.

I'm going to call it Questionable. There have been some X plant creeds in apparently genuine bags, that plant was due to be closed shortly after 2000 and may have been getting the junked stamps that recently closed plants no longer needed. It's not the first time I've seen an X-plant bag with the wrong creed or with other incompatible details. I'm wondering if no one there cared which creed belonged in which bag. That X code might turn out to have been their "garbage" plant where they just stamped bags with whatever was available at the time. The lining is a problem but the only other examples I have are both from Costa Rica and made in 1998. Again, maybe a "junk" plant getting junk materials?

@whateve, what worries you about the mag snap? Just curious. There's another Legacy West Short Shoulder Flap in my files from Costa Rica a few years earlier with what seems to be the same snap. The snap brand has been a pretty dependable indicator of authenticity so far.

I didn't have that snap in my files. Thanks. I had a Costa Rica Legacy West made in 2001 in my files with the correct lining. I have US X code creeds in my files through early 2000, then Dominican Republic starting in 2002.

We've seen several X plant stewardesses with the same errors. Since this is a one off, I would be cautious. @MrsChosco you might have problems if you ever decide to resell it.

I see, so Beenburned and Whateva say its fake? But now you are saying could have been a lousy bag miuse of creed numbers and lining? So is it real or fake. It is a bag for personal use I own many bags and feels very authentic but just wanted to know?

Great points Id like to think it was a sample bag possibly?

I definitely agree that I would never buy it for resale, but if I really loved the style and the color and the price was right, I might take a chance and buy it to keep it for myself.

MrsChosco, I doubt if it's a sample. The year code indicates it was already 3 years into that style's production when that particular example was made.

We never recommend buying "samples" since there's usually no way to prove the bag is genuine from most samples' serial numbers. Many so-called samples are easily spotted as fakes. I've only bought one sample myself but I analyzed and examined the heck out of the Ebay listing for days until I was sure it was a real Coach sample, and it's definitly a "keeper". The exact style of my sample (a messenger-style bag with POCKETS!!!) apparently never made it into production but every detail on it works for me.

ETA - You said "I see, so Beenburned and Whateva say its fake? But now you are saying could have been a lousy bag miuse of creed numbers and lining? So is it real or fake. It is a bag for personal use I own many bags and feels very authentic but just wanted to know?"

Sometimes there's no way to know for sure especially when there are contradictory details or not enough information. "Questionable" is a very real possibility and sometimes it's the only possible answer. It's even happened here a few times that a few months or even years later, we get some additional information that finally gives us a solid answer.

Thank you for sharing definitely love this bag for personal use as you mentioned price was right and took a gamble. It's interesting that there are some sample bags but only understanding history one would know. I appreciate all your feedback as I myself was also very confused as the quality is superb along came with authentic Coach dust bag. Anyway, thanks for your knowledge ill just enjoy this mysterious bag. Have a great day!

Politely bumping, in case this was missed yesterday. I got this so much cheaper than I anticipated, I’m feeling like it might be “to good to be true”. Thanks

Dear Authenticators,
Will one of you please look at this saddle bag I recently purchased on eBay? I don’t see any red flags so far. Measurements are approximately 9 x 8 1/4 x 2 3/4, but the bag has been slightly smooshed. The seller sent it in a plastic mailing bag:sad: Thank you so much.
