Dear Authenticators,
Will one of you please look at this saddle bag I recently purchased on eBay? I don’t see any red flags so far. Measurements are approximately 9 x 8 1/4 x 2 3/4, but the bag has been slightly smooshed. The seller sent it in a plastic mailing bag:( Thank you so much.

It looks OK but wait for BeenBurned or Whateve to confirm.

You're correct, the original strap had different clips that look like trigger-style, and a square buckle. There's also a difference in the quality of the strap leather, and possibly in the colors. This is the slightly smaller 502 but they use the same strap.

I don't see any red flags and I also believe it's probably okay but I can't say with 100% certainty that it's genuine. I've also seen some really close fakes of 502 and 503.

ETA: Although this fake on Poshmark isn't as close as some others in my records, it's still a darned close one and at $850, some poor sucker is going to be ripped off.

That last one from Posh is strange, a misplaced serial number that was only authentic for roughly one year, but no year code at all, which is something you never see in the genuine versions of that style, and there are a few other wonky bits too. I'm not sure about the color either, it seems dark for BT unless it's just the lighting. Let's hope no one is gullible enough to fall for it.

I just wanted to update and offer further reassurance to @sallellen that the bag is authentic. I did further digging and found another item with a 1995 "M" plant creed and can say that the cabin bag is authentic.

Of course, other opinions are always welcome!

AUTHENTICATE This COACH

Please post authenticity questions related to COACH in this thread.

Note: The PurseForum requests that only members with an extensive knowledge of the brand and authenticating who have over 500 posts participate as authenticators in this AT thread. The moderators reserve the right to remove authentications that do not meet these requirements.

Please follow the following rules:

  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:

    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller:
    Link:
    Comments:

  • If the bag in question is not on an auction site, please use the following:

Item Name (if you know it):
    Link (if available):
Then attach any photos (all authentication must include photos.)
    • Please be sure to include a clear readable photo of the creed stamp and serial number from inside the bag or accessory if there is one, and the bag's measurements when the bag is an older or vintage leather Coach.
    • Since mid-2014, Coach stopped putting serial numbers on creeds so in newer bags where the creeds don't have serial numbers, we also need to see pictures of the labels/tags from inside the bag. They are either both in the main open part sewn into the seam of the lining, or one might be buried deep inside the zipper pocket. One shows where made and the other has a serial number.
  • Authenticators are not required to answer every request and it is their right to ignore a request that is not in the proper format.
  • Please note that comments on price and condition are NOT permitted.
  • Do NOT PM an authenticator or moderator to request authentication. Any and all such requests should be posted in this thread.
  • Should one of your items be questioned in this thread, you are welcome to provide additional pictures or materials supporting its authenticity.
  • Do not handle your disputes with other members in this thread but take your differences to Private Messages. Failure to do so can result in banning.
  • Please utilize the "Quote" feature when responding directly to another post.

Welcome to TPF.

I understand that this huge site is confusing to newbies.

Since the item was purchased from an online listing (current or completed), we require a link to the listing as well as the seller's ID on that site.

A single picture isn't adequate to authenticate the bag. If there are more pictures in the listing, generally, we don't need to have them reposted in the authenticity request however because some members' browsers and computers aren't always cooperative, we often request a picture of the creed to be posted in the request. If other pictures are needed, they'll be requested.

Oops! I was too quick to respond!

Thank you for the additional pictures. PLEASE POST THE SELLER ID and a LINK TO THE LISTING.

I believe that the bag is fake, albeit very close.

The lining is incorrect (should be lozenge lining) and AFAIK, "X" isn't a US plant code.

Before opening a dispute, please wait for confirmation from either or both @whateve and @Hyacinth
